Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Yes, I had goosync on my E51 with that little program Swim (I think that's the name) to auto-activate the sync at programmed timing. Then google announced Exchange support for the calendar, so I set that up instead and disabled goosync.
Now that I have the 5800, I'd like to go straight to the Mail for Exchange setup but the screens are different on the 5800, missing certain key fields. I'm just wondering if anyone has been able to get it to work.

Anyways thanks for the tip about goosync working. I may just go back to that if I have to... they seem to actually be a decent company so far.

Hey 5800 owners...Has anyone ever got the "memory full, please close some applications" I got it yesterday and I have only 1 app open. I was going to post a pic on FB and when I clicked the pic..this showed up....Im wondering if its the app hogging the phone memory..seems odd though Ive got 66mb avail phone memory open from the file mgr and still 1.5mb avail on my memory card...... ....How else can you tell what is running in the background ..Ive hit the center white key and the only things showing are the app, s60menu, homescreen...Tom

I got that yesterday for a brief second when I was surfing on opera mobile. I found that strange because I downloaded (and installed) Opera to my memory card and my memory card says 5.3GB free memory remaining. Phone memory has 57.1 MB remaining.

to install expired cert apps, roll your date of your phone back 6 months and try to install the app. if you get the error again, roll the date back another 6 months. keep doing this till you find the time period that the app is valid and it will install.

then just turn your phone's auto time/date back on.

V50.0.005 is OUT!!!
Not sure if it is for NAM though. My 5800 is Euro1 Red 0558982.
Went into the SW Update app (weird, didnt know firmware updates could be done via SW Update) anyway it showed Phone Software Update (12mb). Took 10mins to download and update via HSDPA.
Changes ive noticed:
We now have the N97 V21 Music Player with the mini album arts in Artist, Album, Playlist etc. . .views, like the iPods.
Kinetic scrolling is now in the WHOLE UI, so we now have it in Main Menu, Applications Menu etc...
Web browser has been updated to 7.2 ,it now has full kinetic scrolling, not just in bookmarks like in V40,but its now there in web pages etc... Its also a lot faster at rendering pages, and goes into Fullscreen automaticaly.
Ovi Maps3.03 is now built-in and due to this it has freed up around 12mb extra mem in C: internal memory.
RealPlayer has been updated as well
Ovi Sync app has been added
And a bit more RAM is available, like an extra 3mb.
Music Store is now Ovi Music
And thats all i see so far, some say QuickOffice is now built-in but i dont see it anywhere in my phone.

So does anyone know of another way to access the dialpad since the dialpad shortcut on my homescreen and the green button has stopped responding? I want to avoid a hard reset as much as possible.

I have the 5800 Nav edition. I have the AT&T data plan. I have good Wi-Fi coverage at home and at work (a total of 20+ hours on weekdays). Is there a way to set up the 5800 so that it uses my Wi-Fi connection when available and use only 3G when needed? I see in the Packet data connections options of "when available" and "when needed". I chose when needed option.

Also the Nokia browser remembers my home Wi-Fi connection and when I'm on the road it tries to look for my home network SSID. I set it up now only my 3G connection is used always. I'd love to toggle the connection automatically.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Also I get "System Error" at times when trying to sync email with my Exchange client. I have not identified any patterns on when it occurs. I have not made any changes to cause this. The problem seems to go away in a couple of hours by itself.

Has anyone heard anything about the latest V21 firmware coming out for the NAM 5800? I have been on the fence about buying one because I wanted to make sure the latest firmware would become available for it... Is anyone running V21 on there NAM unit? I saw the list of product codes that currently are listed with the update and the USA is like the only one not listed!!

That is not the case. I OTA updated my 5800XM just the other day. If it were not currently in a different state, I'd pull the product code off of it, but it's is, so I can't. It'll probably be Sunday before I have a chance, if even then. (My SO uses the phone, and she's out of town for work this week and next, and I'm leaving town until Saturday or Sunday, so I might not be back before she leaves again)

I did have to enter the OTA settings, though.

I have used the 3 finger salute multiple times here and the display AND three buttons are dark, dark, dark. Meh! I have previously used the salue successfully, so I know I'm doing it correctly. Have also removed the battery multiple times to ensure it's fully "off" before I hard reset.

The only response I receive from the phone at all is that it vibrates when I hold the power button by itself, with no other response after that.

Well, I think maybe people are comparing this phone either to the iPhone or to a PC. I have a question for ya.... have you ever used any other S60 phones ... ?? ... because this phone is WAY faster than other S60's in my experience.

Also, keep in mind, we have Opera Mini that loads pages like four times as fast as the default browser but its just simply not as functional.

As for scrolling through a page... What I do is hold the phone horizontally and use my two index fingers and pull down with one and then the other rapidly back and forth.... I call it "crawling" down the page. Only takes a second to get to the bottom of any page. I'd take having a big, high res screen ANY-DAY-OF-THE-WEEK over simply being able to "hold down a d-pad" on a small screened phone.

FWIW, I DO totally agree that kinetic scrolling would be great and my fingers are crossed that we might get it someday

qwerty is fine. least works well for me. only thing is you have to make sure your fingernails are trimmed and be more acurate with yuor key presses
