Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I too had both versions of n95s and they definitely sounded crisper and louder than my 5800. It's kind of strange because when 5800 first came out all the reviews praised its stereo speakers. All of them compared to n95 and the verdict was that 5800 had louder and more clear speakers. Maybe later firmwares worsened the speakers...not to sure.

I totally agree about it being utterly inexcusable... however, on to the problem.

You can use Freeunrar 1.01 (freeware) or Xplore (from lonelycatgames), as well. I checked Nokia's site and couldn't find the original Zip util.

God, Nokia needs to really GET A CLUE sometimes.

OK--Just updated to the new NAM software and went thru a bunch of stuff. Ive only noticed that the nokia maps is totally new (with turn by turn nav ..no charge --finally :2thumbs: ) looks cool. other than that, it seems a little more responsive and snappy. Nothing else. I thought there were more items in the pipeline....letters on the dial pad..text msg updated with t9 on the full qwerty and smilies...homescreen..kinetic scrolling...Well...I can take the maps update..We'll wait some more...Beggars cant be choosers..

Does it for Ovi Store, Internet/Web, Internet/Facebook, Apps/Youtube, etc. Bout the only thing that goes to the Internet that I don't see it do the check on is Software Update.

I have my phone updated today.Noticed this:besides notification light on/off option there is a "breathing light" option. It was off by default,so I turned it on but see no light, blinking or otherwise.Any opinions?

I was talking about C. Running the two phones side by side, there's no performance difference wrt RAM at all. Which there shouldn't be since the N97 and 5800 have the same amount!. Running apps or what not, no noticeable speed difference or premature application closure that I've been able to notice. You had a bum unit, chotta.

One thing that is weird is that my wife's 5800 is always asking her for her access point to use. On my N97, it only ever mentions it in Gravity (but selects automatically), but all the Facebook, browser etc never mention it. My wife's 5800 is always asking her. Is this a setting I can't find in the 5800 or a difference between the phones similar to the little dot that appears in apps of the 5800 (but instead a little green dial thing on the N97)?

well i dont wanna say the e71 was problematic, but it does do the signal fluctuation in low RF areas. but its always held calls pretty well. so far my 5800 seems OK but i did get some complaints on saturday, but it was unclear if the problem was on the other end of the call. cause my mom had no signal, and my sister had no signal. but they both swear it was my phone, which had full signal BTW. the point being that was my first day with the phone, so it was hard to tell what was the problem. but since then i've made many normal calls with no problems with 5800.

v30 made it to NAM fine if you changed your product code, but it got pulled.

I've been using it for a while now and it's absolutely not buggy, and way quicker in a lot of ways. Too bad they pulled it, v30 makes the 5800 a very nice device.

Thanks!! Worked like a charm. I went from 25.5MB to 35.4MB! That's pretty amazing. I didn't think it would be that much. I'm not really a heavy surfer. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I'm always playing around with OVI Maps and the gps? :befuddled

On the flip side, is there any adverse effect from clearing the cache? Is the cache sort of like the temporary internet files on your pc, so your favourite webpages wouldn't load as quickly if you cleared the cache?

appears to just be lists on my wife's nav edition. Definitely didn't see it in the browser.

I didn't do a hard reset. She hasn't complained about any crashing yet. I'll have to ask her.
