Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I was wary of updating the firmware because people had reported worse battery life, but I did it anyways yesterday, and now in that span I've lost 2 bars on my battery meter.

It might be because the phone has had 2 resets, updating caused a reset, but then today the phone stopped responding, so I had to reset it, and now I've lost 2 bars.

But I've barely touched it and 2 resets with the earlier firmware didn't seem to cause this.

This is disappointing.

Is it possible to revert to older firmware?

Has anybody else experienced this?

I installed sportstracker. I ran it once when I took out my dog for a pace walk and it showed the time, the speed, average speed etc. Is that it or can you do more things with it?

It looks like i spoke too soon. On a hunch i installed energy profiler onto my e71 for a true comparison. Normally i just run beeper. But it seems that beeper display 20dbm higher than energy profiler. So now i don't know which one is really correct.

Got my 5800xm on Tuesday and im absolutely loving this baby! Had V21.0.025 fw when i got it,ran just fine then i updated to V31.0.101 via FOTA,and its just been excellent. My free C:drive mem right now is at 38mb,im not worried,as an ex N81 owner that had 25mb available in c: drive at 1st boot i managed to keep it around 14mb for 2years lol!
Free RAM on my 5800 at boot up is around 56mb then after a Memory Reclaim with SwissManager i have 66mb free RAM, realy nice. Havent had any issues so far its been stable,no freezes or reboots. :)

well i just found out the antenna is located in the bottom of the phone like the e71. i thought it was on the top, so during those calls yesterday i was completely covering the antenna with my hand. so that's almost definitely what caused the choppy audio in those weak RF areas. its been way better today since i stopped doing that lol. donk.

it's not a limitation of the firmware. that's the way it was designed. a lot of phones are like that now, which i dislike. sometimes it's easier to use the scroll bar.

the OS is single tap almost everywhere for all the apps and menus. its just double tap in the music player and long lists. its not that often.

also when you are done typing your text message, just press the GREEN SEND button. you dont even have to press the OK button to leave the typing area, just press SEND and it sends the text off immediately!! i cant go thru your other points.

today my 5800 nam decided not to receive any incoming calls anymore, but it still can call out. whenever something like this happened, is it the network problem or the phone problem?

FYI, this weekend I had an error where I couldn't use the phone as a Bluetooth modem (it said the modem was in use or otherwise unavailable, and was not retaining my WAP.CingularGPRS.com user ID).

Found the fix today on the Nokia Asia site which is basically to un-pair the phone, delete all bluetooth modems from the connection manager on the PC, then re-pair the phone to the PC and reinstall the bluetooth modem accepting all of the defaults.

Since they have released v40 for the RM-428 Navi Edition I see no reason for them to hold out on the rest of the RM-428 product codes. This is just the usual "hurry up and wait" from Nokia.

mimoss is right about the dup contacts....

However, i heard on aas that v31 is coming for the 5800 with kinetic scrolling, new features and app updates. Should be awesome.

The big question is, will the NAM ever get the d@mn thing?

I haven't noticed poor battery life. You should install energy profiler and check your battery numbers to see whats really going on. With mine i still get the same full charge voltage at 4.14 volts and it starts to drop from full charge at 3.73 volts and then get a dead battery at around 3.4 volts or so. Seems identical to the previous firmware so far. Idle voltage power draw is the same also at a very low 0.03 mA or so.

why nokia didnt incorporate the acc. for the keyboard leaves me puzzled. i never liked the fact that if i wanted the full qwerty, i had to leave it in that position.

dhawktx - syncing your Firefox bookmarks to your phone is pretty simple although it depends on how your PC Suite installation is currently set up. I have MINE set to only sync in ONE direction (from phone to PC) since I use PC Suite sync as a way to backup my phone periodically. I'm not sure how you have YOURS set up but basically you want to 1) choose the services you want to sync TO your phone (choose bookmarks ONLY for this exercise) making sure to UNCHECK all of the other services you want to leave alone for this particular sync (ie, contacts, calendar, notes, files, etc) , then 2) make sure you choose Firefox or Firefox 3.0 whichever one applies) and then ensure that all other settings are set up to go from PC to Phone and all that (it's there in the settings and also in "Advanced Settings" and then click SYNC. It will send all of your Firefox bookmarks to your phone. Afterwords, if I were you, I'd then go back in and reconfigure my sync settings back to my normal settings so that the next time I sync it won't go erasing something that shouldn't be. :)

terre08 - Thanks for the update on Flash 3.1 for NAM! I'd heard it was out for the Euro variants before.... I went and got the update and all is well!

ufo_sasquatch - the screen is TERRIBLE in sunlight... as someone said before me, you'll have to remove your sunglasses to read it. Fortunately, "sunlight legibility" is definitely NOT a big issue for me at all.
