Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

There's something else that's kind of weird about Nokia's naming of the apps and file handling within the device. When I open Phone Memory, I can't find the newly-installed OVI Maps anywhere. It was installed into Phone Memory for sure, so is it hidden? Where? Why? But if I go into Settings > Application Manager, and look into Installed Apps, I see "Nokia Maps" (not OVI Maps), version 3.04(165). So, are OVI Maps 3.4 & Nokia Maps 3.04 the same thing? If so, why the different (and confusing) labelling? And I can't even find the previous version of OVI Maps. So either it is hidden, or has been over-written by the newer version. Likewise, what about the actual map data (not the app)? It should be on the memory card. But if I wanted to go in and delete old maps to load new ones, or for different countries, it's not apparent which files I should delete. I think it all comes down to file management and labelling. Maybe I'm just not tech-savvy enough, but I find the way Nokia is going about it confusing for the average user.

I'm pretty sure that is not a phone bug. You probably have the same number saved twice on your sim card or on your phone memory itself. I have had this problem on several cell phones and it was because of the duplicate number every time. So if for instance Tim's number comes up in the inbox and it does not show his name just the number just use the search feature of your phone and type in the first 5 digits of the number and it will show you everything on your phone that has that number. You may find that you have a "Tim" and a "Tim cell" contact using the same number. Delete the one contact you don't need and you should be set.

Is it possible move or delete contacts from the main alphabetical contact list but still retain the contact info in a group? I have my contacts in separate work and personal groups. When I select the contacts button from the home screen it goes directly to the alphabetical listing of all the contacts, work and personal mixed together. I then have to select the group tab to narrow the display down to my work and personal groups. Then I have to select whichever group has the contact I want to call. I know, it doesnt seem like that big of a deal, but......

I never meant this phone to last me 2-3 years. I actually bought it BECAUSE it was relatively cheap, about $300 after rebate for a smartphone. I just wanted a phone to tide me over until a good android phone or WinMo7 came out. Now WinMo7 is coming out soon, so I'll probably wait until the summer or just after the summer to find a new phone.

But even having this phone for only about a year, its been an unimpressive experience.

To you guys who are complaining, if you want to get down to it, *Nokia* never announced availability of any updates - it was fanbois like us and blogs (like mine) that announce the availability for various product codes, normally.

You can check to see when *NOKIA* officially announces updates here (http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate). If it ain't there, Nokia hasn't said anything, so your argument is moot.

Nope. Only had mine a few days, but I have been using it a LOT, and it's been great.

No problems with calls while driving, or even when riding inside of elevators, often while surfing and running google maps and/or Nokia maps in the background.

Call quality is fine, and no dropped calls.

In my case, it was easy :( as I am too spoiled with the convenience of Smart Dialing and also the fact that I make 80% of my calls from call logs. If the phone has the basics working right, I can let the bonus features grow on me. Moreover, I am looking to get a short-term phone as I have my eyes set on N97, Idou(who knows when this one will be out), new HTCs, Omnia HD, and the rumored new iPhone i June. So, I had to move to the best soon :2thumbs: .

The 5800 and all s60 nokia phones has basic wifi security capability. But universities use a different extra wifi protocol which is not supported on symbian. Sucks.

Heres a question...(Im sure a few of us are in the same boat..)
I, awhile ago, changed my product code to the nav version and updated to get the different homescreen and scrolling. Im liking it so far. Now, theres this new v50 update out there. Do we gain/lose the homescreen ?? Reading thru the changelog, looks like kinetic scrolling is everywhere, so that would be a good thing. I dont want to lose the contacts and 4 fav apps that i just went for during the v40 update..But theres that cooked firmware out there that puts the n97 homescreen options on it..That would be way cool..Whatta you guys think ??

Do you have a link for the directions to the facebook feeds instructions? I've followed them before and couldn't get it work.

Also tomorrow facebook is adding vanity names, I wonder if that's going to change there are feeds.
