Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Interesting. The four-finger salute didn't do anything at all for me, and I tried it twice. The phone simply booted up normally. But *#7370# accomplished a hard reset, restoring all factory UI settings and wiping out all user-provided data from phone (not card) memory.

I have read that V50 is worth the upgrade. If V50 was available for my product code, I would have already upgraded.

If you do nothing, you risk nothing. Re-flashing is always a risk, but I would rather re-flash myself than send a phone to Nokia Service.
Downloading the firmware is simple. What is difficult is getting the software setup properly to do the flash and following the instructions carefully. If you can't get comfortable with the procedure, I would skip it and buy an X6 or N8 when it becomes available.

Just ran it through Dell and check out is 299 + 21.99 next day ship (270.99 after rebate).

My only warning is Dell says next day from date it "ships". Which Dell might take 2-3 days for it to ship.

Not for $350 sim free. There aren't many touchscreen smartphones on the market for this price sim free. The 5800 is not perfect and I think Nokia can greatly improve it with firmware updates , but you get a lot of phone for the money.

Thats interesting, and quite different from the expectations that I had from all that I had read on HoFo and other places. I thought v40 introduced genuine kinetic scrolling everywhere except the menu. Is that not the case?

When I set ringtone for a contact it says the ringtone is set (I go into contacts and see that it has changed) - but never changes, still same as general ring tone when that particular contact calls. Anyone know if this is a general bug or if I am doing something wrong? Does everyone else's phone do this properly?

Are you sure you're recording it right? When you're done press stop on the bottom. And you can playback what you just recorded. If not just close the app. When you open it up again then in to options, gallery, it should be there

Does anyone know why my 5800 does not play thru my aux input to my car stereo? My n95 played fine but my 5800 just does nothing. Even if i try all the options none of them work. My headphones work and its the same 3.5 connection.

Well, I updated to the NAM v31 last week, just hadn't gotten around to it before. The phone kept acting flakey just like the last time I upgraded (staying warm and the battery draining, even though there were no apps open). I'd tried a soft reboot and then a hard reboot, neither helped. So I re-did the update, which fixed the problem last time, but not this time. Still flakey so I did another hard reboot. And got nada. Held the buttons down waaaay longer than I needed to, but no lights, no NOKIA logo. I did get a wiggle when I tried to just turn it on regular. But no lights on the screen OR on the three buttons.

Is this bad boy bricked?

Does anyone know which firmware version is currently on the Rogers' 5800? I was talking to a rep at a Rogers Plus store and he claimed he had recently downloaded a firmware upgrade OTA for a customer without debranding, or unlocking, or any modification whatsoever. I don't think he was entirely BS'ing, but I also don't think he meant he downloaded an entire new firmware version. He probably did download something, so are there "patches", or revisions to a firmware version that can be downloaded OTA? (This is for Rogers' 5800)

I installed the new ovi maps, not knowing that it wouldnt work with my older software version. Now it wont run when I tap on the maps icon, so it seems to have overwritten the old maps app. I dont know how to run or re-install the older version, and tried the factory settings reset.
Any suggestions on how to get maps(old or new) working again?
