Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

In my experience, it's completely usable with my thumb's fingernail. I like the option of mini-qwerty, I only miss a letter maybe 1 in 10.

Does anyone have problems displaying chinese text in Opera Mobile 10? (specifically traditional, not interested in simplified). I've found that it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't on two different handsets. I've installed the asian language pack version and have tried clearing cache, cookies, etc. Would Opera Mini make a difference?

Some people said they had to hard reset after flashing to get email previews on the home screen. Maybe this guy should do a hard reset if he can't get it to work from his settings.

I suddenly realized why my red key was 'dead'. I had that ThePencil app installed where you can use a key as a Pencil key, and hold it down to mark several items. I had it assigned to the red key. I feel pretty foolish now!

What app will let me use the flash as a flashlight?

Also sorry for the plug but if anyone wants an invisibleshield full body kit, I have an unopened one that I am not using so feel free to let me know if you want it, PM me. I'll sell it for $20 shipped which is cheaper than buying it off the site and you'll still have the lifetime warranty. :)

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone of you guys knew how to tell which version it is. Im currently in HK and want to buy a 5800 but the guys at the shop doesn't know if they are selling the north america or asia version. Im from vancouver bc and have a video calling plan and want to use it thats why i have to make sure that i buy the north america version. im pretty sure since im in Hk that they'll sell me the asia version but jsut want to knwo if there is a way to check.

is there a code i can punch in? or does it say on the box? or anything?

RE: OVI Maps

1. Is it necessary, or recommended, that the previous version of OVI Maps be uninstalled before downloading a new version? This would be in the interest of preserving phone memory, since OVI can only be installed to the phone, and not the memory card.

2. I downloaded OVI Maps 3.4, and noticed that the satellite signal strength green/yellow bars indicator no longer shows on the map screen. Is that normal? I'm on Rogers with firmware 3.xx BTW.

Hacking the phone does allow you to save time by not signing apps but it's not the only reason for hacking, as we mentioned.

You don't have to get a signing cert to hack your phone, you can get the guys who wrote HelloOX2 to sign your copy for your IMEI and you can install it like any other signed app. They ask for a donation of 5 euros or dollars, to me it's the best 5 you'll spend in the Nokia world.

I don't think it's true that every update you have to wait to hack again, it worked from the release up until v40 (about 4 or 5 updates).

How is everyone getting the battery out of this phone? Not talking about the cover which is a pain too but the actual battery. I have to use a small flathead screwdriver to get it out. It fits awfully tight in the phone.

Okay thanks. I'm very glad that I'm not the only one in here who received the 5800 without the seal on the box lid. The phone and all the other things that came together with the phone inside the box doesn't look like they were tampered with.

You can't see duration in the Recent Calls section.. u have to go to log, then at the top hit the tab to the right, and it will tell u ur calls and duration if u click on any call.

The chances of data going through are the same but the potential for more data to go through is greater in 3G.

Just delete all your access points or if you want to keep them for emergencies just edit them with the word "off" appended to the end of the settings. So you can go back and delete it if you need to use data.

Hows everyone finding the battery life? This thing just keeps going. I do around 8hours on and off browsing (IM and Facebook included), 2.5hours music, around 10 texts, a couple of of 5-10min calls and running Gravity for about an hour, thats just during the week, with that useage it lasts me a full day (9:30am -2am early hours of the morning).
During weekends im not as heavy as im usualy out, it will last me from Friday morning to late afternoon Sunday, so basicaly the whole weekend. :)
Realy impressed.
