Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

yes exactly. and it works perfectly in gravity. photo browser works great too, but it seems the pics take a while to render when you have a lot of them. but the actual function works like it should.

as soon as nokia gives it to our 5800 and n97, i think much of the "bashing" will be answered.

I believe that support has come to mean a lot more today in terms of computers and mobile devices than just giving it a 1 year warranty. So am I just supposed to expect a warranty from Nokia? Is that it? I spend several hundred dollars on a mobile computer (nokia's terminology), and all I get is a warranty? Nokia knows they need to provide updates, and they have just not to all the product codes. And why?

People do sometimes have problems when they start hacking their phones. There are plenty of stories on these forums to prove that. I'm reluctant because the phone is working great right now, and I don't want to mess anything up. I would rather wait for the more proven and reliable methods of updating firmware to be available.

Hey guys. I just connected my phone via pc suite and tried to update and it says there is no update avail. I am running version V 20.2.014. I just read on the last page that the update was avail in the states. Any thoughts on why I cannot get the firmware update? Thanks

Well it looks like bad news considering that my phone doesn't even seem to allow me to do that... I can go menu -> settings -> phone.... but after that I get this list of options...

Time and date
Schedule power on/off
Language
Preferred input methods
Key Vibtor
Handwriting
Misc. Settings
SensCtrl

And this will likely sound like a ridiculous question but.... should I be able to text in landscape mode? After I select Write Message I am automatically flipped back to vertical mode which has a tiny, virtually impossible to type on with any speed, keyboard.

I looked under the battery for specs. They are there but it's a sticker that could easily not belong to the phone originally.

As for pictures I took some but am not sure how to work this Insert Image thing.

Thanks so much for your help so far guys... I really appreciate it.

Don't think that's true. I didn't even do a hard reset. I was just too happy to finally get my usb cord in i forgot all about it lol. I didn't even back up my stuff.

You start out with a lot of ram, which didn't matter much as you lose like 13mb a few hours later, but the phone overall feels much faster still. Screen rotation is like instant. The browser loads even faster. Though i still like opera 5 better because of tabbed browsing. Also for the music player, seems that the overall speed helped it out too. Normally when i listen to music for a long time (an hour or more), when you unlock the phone to look at the player, the information on the player would freeze up. I have to switch to home then back and it's normal again. Hasn't happened since i did the update yet. The gallery seems faster at opening thumbs as well. Usually for me it would just load up whatever you see and when you scroll down, you'll have to wait. Now it loads a majority of it (can scroll down like another pagw and a half), then rest you have to wait a little.

Anyhow, that's what i've noticed so far based on the things i used the most.

Got a question, but I didn't want to start a new thread or bring up some old thread. My work is starting a new group plan with at&t and getting all of us iphones. I just want to make sure that I can still use an unlocked Nokia with an iphone data plan. I'm pretty sure it's just a regular data plan that's required for iphone users. I'm excited about getting to play around with an iphone, and I will get to really compare it to my 5800 XM. We will see which one I'm using a month from now. I love my Nokia, but I will give iphone a fair chance.

1. I have 2 access points defined in my Internet destination, which are my Home and my work access points.

2. I have 1 access point defined in Multimedia msg destination.

3. I have 1 access point defined in WAP services destination.

When I bought the phone in the first week, I was trying to use only Wi-Fi without 3G, and I think I deleted some of my access points other than Wi-Fi. Then I manually added the WAP services access point.

Looks like I deleted an ATT access point in the Internet destination.

Could you tell me what I need to define for the ATT Internet access point?

Thx.

"why are you not using the ATT Internet AP in destinations? if you use that, just set it so that all the wifi connections have higher priority. then the phone will just choose from the list of what's available. i'd leave the wifi scanning to make the process more efficient as it will find the appropriate connection and connect automatically (for wifi)."

Depends on where the pin is bent, and to what angle.

Check it first, then let us know. It would be very hard to straighten because the opening is so small, but you might be able to grab some tweezers and straighten it.

If the pin was bent it would still charge, because only the pin bending wouldn't impede the current. That might not hold true if the pin is touching the sides of the jack though.

I updated this afternoon, had to change my product code,so it debranded my phone as well. Im loving this FW! My phone was Hacked already so when i updated the hack stayed :D So ive got hackd V40 fw :) . . . . .until i have to hard reset lol, hopefuly there will be a hack by then.

Damn, can anyone else confirm that this new build is unstable on the 5800? I'm about to try it out, i'll let you guys know.

EDIT: looks like i already had the newest version (4.02(0)) it seems pretty stable to me besides for the glitch with the top of the screen (bottom never crashes for me).
