Actually, I blame The CW just as much as 4Kids, if not moreso. Seriously, the Kids' WB! brand should have at least ended on television when The WB and UPN merged to become The CW. Kids' CW actually makes more sense than Kids' WB! on The CW. At least CW 4Kids emphasizes the network's brand for once.
How is CW4Kids more than a mouthful than Kids' WB? They both have the same amount of syllables.
They don't care. FOX and The CW are paying them a lot of money, and 4Kids is taking advantage of both networks' laziness to maintain and program their own children's blocks. That's the real problem, mind you. FOX, The CW, CBS, NBC, and ABC are too lazy to develop and program their own Saturday morning blocks that they have other people manage it for them.
ION, Corus, Scholastic, and Entertainment Rights operate the qubo block along with NBC Universal (the block is broadcasted on NBC and Telemundo). Unlike the other networks, at least the people behind qubo recognize that not everybody has access to broadband, so qubo is availiable as a free digital television channel.
DiC Entertainment and American Greetings operate the KEWLopolis block for CBS. Prior to that, Nickelodeon programmed the Nick Jr./Nick on CBS blocks.
ABC Cable Networks programs ABC Kids. The lineup is all repeats of Disney Channel and Toon Disney programming.
4Kids isn't doing anything different than what qubo, DiC, and Disney are doing elsewhere. It's just that 4Kids has taken advantage of a pair of successful blocks owned by networks wanting to save a buck by not working to create and manage their own brands rather than just one. Either that, or people hate what they did to their precious, precious anime.
For starters, just because it's called Kids' WB doesn't mean it's going to have ALL Kids' WB programming. Warner Bros. is reintroducing the brand as a showcase for most of the Warner Bros.-owned animated titles and properties (Cartoon Network's shows are
elsewhere), not particularly the shows seen on Kids' WB. You won't see non-WB-owned properties like Spectacular Spider-Man or Eon Kid or past shows like Pokemon, Earthworm Jim, Jackie Chan Adventures, or X-Men Evolution on the site, and a lot of "Silver Age" shows like Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Taz-Mania, and Histeria are already on
in2TV, though they may eventually migrate to Kids' WB! over time.
This article officially confirmed that new episodes of Chaotic is CW-bound. 4Kids sees it as a property with life in it, probably because it's one they have a direct ownership in since Yu-Gi-Oh! is owned by another party. I wonder if the whole "Game Station" subtitle will remain myself, but even if it does, they could always focus on shows based on video games and such.
That said, I don't think the final lineup is set, but TMNT: Back to the Sewers and the new Yu-Gi-Oh are among 4Kids' highest profile properties, so it wouldn't surprise me if both join Chaotic at The CW.
You're right. There hasn't been any signs of failure from 4KidsTV as it continously is a ratings draw week after week. And it is a bad idea that the FOX block will likely be a test block for the 2009-10 season of The CW 4Kids. Depending on how you see the situation, either The CW got lazy and couldn't think of another distributor to handle their block or 4Kids got greedy and decided to program two blocks rather than one. 4Kids' contract with FOX ends in a year, and instead of renewing it, they chose to migrate their programming to The CW for at least five years. If they did renew it (and they still could considering how nobody batted an eye at the notion of one distributor programming two broadcast network blocks), I doubt 4Kids would be as strong as they were before the deal considering they're stretching themselves thin. In 2013, the question of whether it was a good deal or not will be answered.
I'll be 35. Maybe my kids will care, if I have some by then.
The CW acquired 26 episodes of The Spectacular Spider-Man, 13 for the spring and 13 for the fall. 4Kids would be foolish to drop the series, especially since they could pair it up with something like TMNT. 4Kids is greedy, shrewd, and manipulative, but not foolish.
