[NEWS] R.I.P. Kids WB 1995-2008, Kids'WB.com Emerges April 2008

Okay... how do I explain it... 3 years after the toy line came out, I still saw them on pegs at KB toys marked down less than 2 dollars. And there were nooooooo takers. I guess that's why they were skiddish about the toy lines of Kirby and Pinata.

Spectacular Spider-Man is still allotted to the CW space for two seasons at minimum. And if the new programmers renege on that agreement, expect hell to pay . . . and Spider-Man to find a new home elsewhere. And I sincerely pray that 4Kids won't be as lazy on their CW block as they are on their Fox block to air double programming.

That said, this would probably be the new lineup come fall 2008. All times Eastern:

7 AM: 4Kids E/I Requirement #1
7:30 AM: 4Kids E/I Requirement #2
8 AM: 4Kids Import #1
8:30 AM: Tom and Jerry Tales
9 AM: Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue
9:30 AM: 4Kids Import #2
10 AM: Familiar 4Kids Property #1 (likely Yu-Gi-Oh! GX)
10:30 AM: Legion of Super Heroes
11 AM: Familiar 4Kids Property #2 (likely TMNT)
11:30 AM: Spectacular Spider-Man

Yeah. That's what it'll look like.

Wow. After so many years, Kids WB is finally ending. What a sad day that will be.

And 4Kids taking over? Man, that's about the last thing I would've expected. I'm not really up on how all of this stuff works; is it really a good move to have 4Kids running 2 competing blocks?

Come on! Why do pieces of my childhood keep dying? :crying:

*shakes head* I am totally floored by this. Wow. 4kids was the last buyer I expected, too. It feels like we've collectively fallen into Bizarro World or something.

Hmmm, I'm looking at the Kids' WB! site right now, and I see an ad for Thumb Wrestling Federation in the bottom left. When did that come to Kids' WB? I don't watch the block anymore, so I wouldn't know. I thought it aired on Nicktoons Network. They're little between-show shorts, about two or three minutes long each.

You know, as with the closing of Kids' WB!, I had a "What if" thought on how the schedule would've looked like in the Fall 2008-2009 season had Kids' WB! survived: A new Star Trek cartoon from CBS Paramount, a Little Rascals cartoon from CBS, and a new Looney Tunes series:

What If...KWB survived?

Fall 2008-2009 schedule:

7:00AM Krypto The Superdog
7:30AM Baby Looney Tunes
8:00AM The New Little Rascals
8:30AM Tom and Jerry Tales
9:00AM Looney Tuneiverse
9:30AM Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue!
10:00AM Star Trek: The Animated Series
10:30AM The Spectacular Spider-Man
11:00AM Babylon 5: The Animated Series (I can dream)
11:30AM Batman: The Brave and The Bold (Coming in 2009)

It's not really that bad. The only thing being doubled is TMNT, since that brings in the highest ratings, for the most part. Toonami is far worse with their doubling (or even tripling) of shows.

I think they've been airing those since November or so. I guess Kids' WB is too lazy to make their own cheesy promotions now. ;)

So 4kids was not satisfied enough with staining the memory of Saturday Morning cartoons on Fox Kids but now Kid's WB? But I didn't grow up watching Kid's WB so I don't have much of an attachment to it.

Oh, I see. I thought I haven't seen it on NN in a while. :)

btw, the shorts are from Animation Collective (producers of Kappa Mikey on nicktoons.)

And broadcast TV execs cry about why more and more people are turning to cable networks...

Though, I suppose, broadcast TV is eventually coming back full circle to the way it was in the very beginning with less and less variety.

Actually, 4Kids has historically been more lenient than Kids WB when it came to censorship, at least in the past few years. Compare TMNT with the Batman, or Yu-Gi-Oh's edits compared to One Piece's. Even the less-violent TMNT: Fast Forward got away with things I don't think Kids WB would ever allow. While I'm not sure just how lenient the S&P people Weisman dealt with will be compared to the WB's usual standards, there's a good shot 4Kids' standards won't be much worse. Plus, as I understand it, standards and practices are determined by the network, not the block (it was Fox that decided not to air the never-aired TMNT episode, Insane in the Membrane, not 4Kids), so it might be a moot point anyway.

I remember Jeff saying that Kids WB should change their name since it's the CW now, but I don't think he expected this.

Wow, only 10 people working in the kids division. I wonder where some of the Kids WB shows will go to now.

Hey, I LIKE Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne movies.

I just hate crappy cartoons taking over a spot where GREAT cartoons once ruled. There may be SOME hope left for the block, but the people that are saying that the once great KidsWB block is dead are probably right.

Goodbye, old friends:crying:

Richard Hudson 33 year old cartoon fan.
