New Macross (Macross Frontier) - Talkback

Ouch, then this show is a victim since its got two cute idol girls! I'm such a sucker for it. I would argue that its not any more a commercial aspect then having giant robots but I believe now that's pointless.

Can anyone else coming up with a reason for hellcat to get into this show when he doesn't like the focus on the power of music and doesn't like the focus on cure idol girls, which seems to me to be the main selling points of the show?

Its like trying to convince someone to watch gundam 00 when they say they don't like mecha anime nor its political focus.

Honestly, there hasn't been too much mecha action in this show. There has been a whole lot of singing and watching the two girls compete over "princess".

Man Frontier 25 was grerat. Some might say that the series relied to much on homages to the older shows but I feel thta what giver frontier it charm. All most all the great monments of 25 have been stated so I won't bother, but I have to say that having the love tirangle unresovled is nothing new to Macross look at Macross 7.

Can't wait for the movie!!

Please don't hotlink those images. Just save them, uploaded them to photobucket and link from there.

Trust me, I know the stuff MAHQ does when they find out people are hotlinking.

It kind of depenRAB on what the deal with the Vajra is. Supposedly they're mindless and stupid lower life forms, and yet music can affect them. So what exactly is going on? Beats me. I'm still sorting out what kind of alien Sheryl's agent is supposed to be.

I can't dispute that music and the whole pop idol thing is more present here than in original Macross, which is inevitable when your love triangle involves two star singers. The love triangle in classic Macross was better since there was a much greater contrast between the two love interests. The way it's going it seems obvious that the aliens are going to try to use Ranka for whatever plans they have, and it'll be up to Altoh to save the day...in which case the triangle is kind of moot since Sheryl seems shoved to the sidelines lately. I can't see things getting much more epic than this considering that Frontier seems set for 25 episodes, which is shorter than other Macross series. So far as I know, there aren't any plans for another season.

Macross Frontier has aired, so I'd like to change this to a talkback thread.

First Ep. Wow, this show must have a really nice buget, the animation is top of the line some of the best I've seen for a series (but hey it's macross)
It's starts off with a intro like Macross7 with cliffnotes recap of the start of macross. We are then shown the first of the 3 main charaters, idol singer Cheryl Nome who is on a tour of the frontier fleet. We then meet Ranka Lee a big fan of Cheryle who works in a chinese restaurant and can't wait for the first performace. We then meet Alto Saotome a young student who dreams of flying a Valkyrie (he seems to be on some kind of drill team which is going to be in Cheryle's show operation X-gear suits (flying armor which also interfaces with Valkyries). A fun fact about Alto is that he has a somewhat girlish face and gets teased for it. Deep in space a recon-Valkyrie is destroyed. Meanwhile in order to get into the concert faster Ranka takes a shortcut which gets her lost, she then runs into Alto(she mistakes him for a girl at first) who takes her back. We then cut back to space where drone-fighters are picked off by some unknow enemy and cut to the concert and back to the escalating threat (to which MF learRABhip seems to have been expecting). It soon gets to the point where an emergency throughout the fleet and the performance is cut short. Soon one of the unknowns break through the city's dome and goes about killing anything with a heartbeat. As Alto leaves he sees Cheryle beening taking away by an armed escort and yells at her about leaving her fans during the emergency to which she replys that it should be left to the pros. Alto then flies off using his X-gear (Cheryle calls him a idiot). As he flys over the city he's attacked by the alien fighter and his X-gear is hit forcing him to land. A VF-25 then flies in engages the fighter, unfortunately the fight manages to get on top of the jet forcing the pilot to launch out of the cockpit in his own X-gear and rifle only to grabbed and then crushed by the alien. It then turns sights to Ranka who is traped in the rurable of the city. Alto hopes into the VF-25 to save her and the ep enRAB with him fighting the alien.

P.S. the ending is a real treat for old school Macross fans

Wow, looks intresting. I really need to watch this eppy.

The original soundtrack for the Macross Frontier science-fiction anime series has reached #3 on Oricon's next weekly chart of all albums sold in Japan. The 72,000 sold copies make Macross Frontier Original Soundtrack I: Nyan Fro the first anime soundtrack to reach the chart's top 3 rankings in nearly 11 years. The last anime album to reach #3 or higher was The End of Evangelion soundtrack, which was first released on Septeraber 26, 1997. More sales of the Macross Frontier soundtrack are expected as many music stores across Japan had sold out and had to reorder more copies.

Yoko Kanno + Maaya Sakamoto + May'n= win

episode 25 confirms that this series is for the Macross fan. This series started off a bit slow but just WOW. What an amazing ending.

but what about
the love triangle! How do you not resolve that?! Part of the Charm of the first Macross is that the girl most people liked won in the end .

I wonder if Hime will find out Loli Lee is Big Brother Lee's sister and black mail Big Brother Lee with that?

Will Big Bother Lee end up in a similar role and with a similar fate as Roy Focker?

That IS what happened. She got an idea for a song and had to find the nearest thing to write it down on. Klein was asking her why she was vandalizing the lingere, and Sheryl told her not to interrupt genius at work, which inspired a shrug.

Except for those of us who don't mind it and won't let one little aspect ruin our enjoyment of a show that has otherwise been fantastic so far.

But hey, good, stop watching so we don't have to scroll past your multitude of posts spewing vitriol on the subject.

Don't fret about it, throw all his inhibitions out the window and just sit down and watch the first five episodes, and if he doesn't like it, leave it as is?

Put [ spoiler]at the front of your spoiler and[ /spoiler] at the end but without the spaces.

On a more relevant note, I didn't like this that much. I liked the original Macross, and Macross Plus was pretty good by the end, but this is just really bad. The anime cliches are way overboard; all the characters are anime stereotypes, and it just enRAB up looking like generic pop anime crap, not at all related to Macross.

Hey, Frontier may be about to get really good and stay that way. Episode 11 and the preview for 12 seem to suggest that renegade Zentradi are about to become a problem.
