just wanted to give a quick mention that Bell is currently testing 2 new HD channels.

828 - National Geographic HD
838 - Showcase HD

Don't know when they'll appear in the guide, but they're on their way!

The MPEG2 or MPEG4 issues is a matter of choice by the transmitting company.
In the U.S. DishNetwork uses a great deal of TRUE MPEG4 now, initially it was a fake version for the reason stated above.
The only other NatGeo HD on Canadian Sat is in plain old regular MPEG2 as well.

In Bev's case, unless they only intend it to go to a small handful of users with their latest MPEG4 ready box, then it will be MPEG2 and your current HD gear will be fine.
The current signals are indeed MPEG2 720p HD, so no need to worry.
As speculated, watch and see in February.

I was shot down several months ago for saying the MPEG4 used by Dish was fake, just happy to see that I am now either vindicated or the myth lives on....lol

A&E HD has to be a SD rebroadcast , everything on that channel looks stretched .... but yes bring on more HD channels allready.

I occasionally watch this channel and don't notice any audio problems when using my 6100.;)

If you are referring to the previous post.....I have no idea at all....

I do not even want to guess...

According to the EPG, which could be wrong, NG HD last night offered nothing in prime time in HD as there was no HD in front of any program title. The few times I checked the station was showing non-widescreen programming. This looks to me like yet another channel using up an HD slot but providing only minimal HD programming. What is so great about that?

Disappointed that these are the two channels being added. To be perfectly honest, as someone said there is enough nature programming (though I have to disagree with any complaints about Oasis, I watch it constantly and love it) so I don't see what i'll get extra from NGHD. As for Showcase, the only shows worth watching on that channel are ones the wife won't let me watch on the big screen if the curtains are open, let alone if they're in HD. Do I really need to see Kink in HD? Me thinks not.

What we really need is a 24 news provider in HD.......

And nuke the 200's. I wish they had spot beam sats in canada. I want more HD and less locals. One per time zone is fine if we must have out of market locals.
Adding these two is good if they are really HD.

I was commenting on the Voom channels that Bev have, Equator, Rush etc also known as the High Fiedelity channels. People here and other sites in the United States either love them or hate them. Some people feel the bandwitdh is a total waste others think they are necessary. Sorry about the earlier post, I do think this is more clear.......lol

I welcome the channels, if we get them. We all have different tastes in what we watch. For some it's sports, others news, and some like arts. The more choices the better for everyone. :)
