National Geographic (828) & Showcase (838) HD now on Evu

On the "HI FI" channels there has to be a deal struck with DishNet to carry these and must carry them. These channels polarize people on DHC and other sites.
 
So far so good with the PQ on NG HD. I watched Dog Whisperer and Ross Kemp On Gangs and the PQ was excellent!:)

All in all I am pretty pleased to find two shows that I watch now available in HD! I wonder if next season of The Trailer Park Boys will be in HD as well? In the interim I will see if other stuff comes up on Showcase for me to check out.
 
Is it me, or Showcase HD (channel 838) has very annoying short (1/2 second) audio dropouts every 20-30 seconds or so? I haven't seen this problem on any other channel.
 
Just notice the new channels kicked in today, and yea their in Free preview until December 18th, 2008. thats a 11+ month free preview lol.. Makes me think these 2 channels r kinda crappy ( I never watch showcase or Ntgeo lol)
 
It's not related to location. Location may only impact signal strength. Signal strength impacts the picture/audio only when it drops below certain level, and the break-ups are way more severe and affect the picture too. This is definitely not the case with this channel - there are no issues with signal strength and video quality.
 
Same problem for me Arthur. It's driving me nuts. I can't stand to watch it because of this. I would have called to complain, but I know that I would just get fed a bunch of bs.
 
please file this as RUMOR since it isn't official till it's made official, but my source at expressvu seems to believe that geohd & shwhd will go live around the beginning of february.

he's also believes that these two channels will move to 807 & 808 respectively in the guide once they go live but he can't confirm that information for me at this time. (so much for insider info :p)

again, nothing's official until expressvu makes an official announcement but take comfort in knowing that we're at least getting a couple new channels to start the year off!

here's hoping for more!
 
Which basically means they have not yet been added to the channel map used by consumer receivers.

It does mean they are broadcasting from the satellite and viewable by special receivers and MPEG2 test equipment.

You'll just have to wait.
 
Both are up and running and looking good. However by this time tomorrow the "usual suspects" will be complaining about the PQ and compression.
 
My 6000 and 9200 don't show them even on ALL channels. Will have to wait I guess. What I meant by real HD channels is not a channel like A&E which is in wide screen but not hd most of the time.

I would like to see NHL Network in HD like it is in the USA.
 
Of course your receivers don't show them, they are hidden. Theres all kinds of test channels that most people don't know about. The uplink reports can be interesting.
 
Agreed....any HD addition is great. Those 2 channels in particular will be a welcome addition as they both show quality programming that you can't get anywhere else.

With BEV's HD ST, HD MLBEI, HD NCAA, and the addition of these two channels, they continue to lead the HD pack.
