Name the worst remake

Here's some which were truly awful:

1) Psycho (1998) - absolutely dire.

2) Flight of the Phoenix (2004) - got every point the original movie ever made wrong, including the embarrassing portrayal of the Heinrich Dorfmann character.

3) King Kong (1976) - a massively built robotic ape was just a joke.

4) Brief Encounter (1974) - cringe-makingly bad copy of a truly brilliant original (1945).

* Any more? :D

"War Of The WorlRAB" with Tom Cruise...Totally dire!
If you excuse the primitive (but good at the time) special effects, the original is much better.

Yes that's how I feel. It helps also if you don't cream your jeans over the overrated original. One of those insufferable films that is desperately cool to like.

I also don't find Planet Of The Apes that bad. The ending is what ruins the film, it's so confusing. But that aside I thought it was aesthetically stunning, and HBC and Tim Roth are superb. I don't blame Burton for attempting a "new" ending... the Statue Of Liberty ending wouldn't have the same affect on the audience these days, seeing as 99.9% of the population know it already. Just a pity he didn't come up with something a little less barmy than the one he filmed.

Thought that was ok tbh.

One of the worst has to be Stallone's Get Carter. So bad I almost killed myself while watching it.

Godzilla (1998)!

Dreadful film that completely ruined the legacy of Godzilla.

It was bad enough that they moved it to New York, but add in the fact that it rained throughout the film; they used the same action shots over & over again & the fact that just when you thought the nightmare was over, it went on for another 30 minutes with the Jurassic Park rip-off at the end with the Godzukis, all adRAB up to the worst remake I've ever seen.

Planet of the Apes was originally a novel by Pierre Boule (who also wrote the novel upon which The Bridge of the River Kwai was based) so I guess the 'interpretation' argument can be made here too.

Actually, Burton's version, including the ending, is closer to the novel that the 1968 version.

Basically, in the novel, the action takes places on an alien planet where intelligent apes have evolved. When the astronaut returns to Earth, he finRAB that intelligent apes have now evolved on Earth and are the dominant species.

There was a TV remake of Murder on the Orient Express starring Alfred Molina as a Hoplessly miscast Poirot.

It failed to work on every level, especially the "clever" updating.

Dame Agatha must have spun in her grave over that one!

Everyone says The Wicker Man but i have heard if you have not seen the original then the new one isnt too bad?

I have not seen either but i have the new one on dvd and will watch that soon.

You have heard wrong. :p It's just a bad film. Please at least give the original the credit and watch it first, then watch the remake.

Oh yes, The Wickerman remake was horrendous! That's the only one where I haven't got anything out of it, not even a decent scene in the whole film.

Most other remakes I can think of something that stops me not liking it 100%

That Psycho remake, and Funny Games were pointless remakes. Add something, not shot for shot with different actors and actresses...
