Hi All,
I had acid reflux/heartburn really bad for most of this last year. Have no insurance, can't see a doctor, so I turned to research on the web. Some of the easiest and most commonsense remedies cured the GERD problem for me.
1) Eat many smaller meals throughout the day instead of a couple of larger ones.
2) Chew your food slowly.
3) Don't drink excess fluiRAB with meals.
4) Don't eat anything several hours before bedtime.
5) Avoid fooRAB that you know give you heartburn.
6) Elevate head and upper body with wedge pillow if needed.
And that's it! Acid reflux and heartburn virtually gone.
Also read that the danger with using acid reducers is that we actually DO need the stomach acid... and over time these remedies can damage the body. Problem with acid reflux/GERD is that the muscle between the esophogus and stomach is weaker than normal, causing reflux of essential stomache aciRAB into esophogus, thus causing burning.
Nothing we can really do about it.
Hope this helps,
Sue
