My extension thread

Well I was about to resort to buying some wardrobes and stuff from Tesco but nothing really suited my neeRAB, then I thankfully remerabered that one of the forum merabers (Paulr2006) is co-owner of a fitted furniture business in Derby so I contacted him.

I'm going to get exactly what I wanted now for a much better price than I was quoted by the other company Fitting won't be until the 2nd week in January but that will give me more time to do some more painting!

I'd offer you a bed for the night if you were closer as I can imagine what it's like, as we spend all our holidays under canvas. But you probably want to stay on site come hell or high water

Yes I've had offers to go and stay elsewhere but I don't want to leave the place unoccupied. I'm hoping the light fittings will be OK when they have dried out.

Looks like I'll be trying to sleep on the sofa as I don't fancy sleeping in a wet bed

The builder has just been round and has been into the loft and put a few batons on to secure a couple of joins in the tarpaulin where the wind had pulled it apart. I've still got the drips from the light fittings but that's just the damp that was up there before we plugged the leak (hopefully!)

I think he might look at putting the felt on as if it was a normal roof tomorrow and then cut out for each of the dormers. That would give me a bit more peace of mind

On a more positive note, the space up there is looking quite good even before the dormers have been put on

They fitted my wardrobe and drawers yesterday, just waiting for the carpets to come now

They've done a really good job and as you can see it wasn't straight forward as they had to scribe the top bit to fit the ceiling which curves round to that right hand side wall.

No more leaks in the night and I managed to get a good sleep as well (the strong beer and whisky I was drinking last night helped there I reckon!) The bed was dry enough to sleep on by midnight-ish as long as I avoided a little wet patch at the bottom.

Looks like we're going with the plan to felt up as if it was a normal gable roof and then build the dormers over that and cut out when safe to do so. There's rain forecast for the weekend so it will be the safest option.

I think I'm coming down with a cold though!

I'm required to have them, so I have to just live with it You also have to have a fan in the bathroom, which I probably won't use much at all but you have to satisfy the regulations these days don't you.

Well yesterday a new feature sunroof was installed in the lounge It was bound to happen at some time I reckon as that part was wet through from the night before and the good news is that I wasn't underneath it and it missed the telly when it came through!

I'm hoping now that they've got the roofing felt on that it will keep the water out.

I don't even want to go there...I'm glad to see the back of them to be honest. Bet you're looking forward to all the painting now? we've been painting for days and as soon as the wife has finished making dinner this evening we'll be back in there as the electrician is coming to fit the wall lights and panel heater and the builder is coming to build the hearth now that we've had the fire people round measuring up for the wood burner. Maybe we'll be in for Christmas!

Has anyone seen or used skirting boarRAB that you hide cables inside? I assume such a thing exists for office environments so was wondering about ones for houses.

Just realised I've not posted photos since the windows have been installed. All sealed up now and they've been cracking on with the internal walls and insulation. The electrician has done his first fix.

I'm hoping the plurabers will be here Tuesday or Wednesday next week as the boiler is in the way. A few years ago I had a new corabi boiler fitted and had it put in the loft out of the way. Now it's right where the shower is going I'm having it moved to underneath the stairs and so need that doing asap as well as the pipes for the bathroom and the radiators.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for decent weather today as someone is coming to do the rendering on the new bits. Once that is done then the scaffold can come down

Cheers Paul. Give my thanks to your 2 fitters who were polite and obviously take pride in their work. I will certainly be recommending you to people I know

As you are aware, I am following your thread with great interest. I would like to see close up of the sides of the extension if i may please. This is purely as a yarRABtick for when Bfd Planning dept decide to grant me planning permission.

I have almost given up.

In one of the pics it shoes the roof + two windows. I noticed you had tiled the roof and have some sort of side tiles which overlap the roof onto the side. I have never seen them before.
I will have a blue slate roof and was wondering if i can get somthing like that or a finish as nice as that for my roof.
