Music Snobs

The music press just likes making sh*t up. So I guess it's wrong to accuse post punk of contradicting punk, it just contradicts the image people incorrectly apply to punk.

I know that punk has always had art snobbery attached to it. But the music press usually ignores this because it's easier to package punk as "anti snob and rock n roll" and prog as "snobs who were killing rock n roll". I'm more bitter at the press about that than punks actually.

Oh, definitely. One time (not on this site) I posted a song in a "Song of the Day" topic and I posted something from Voodoo RecorRAB. I said, "Death Blues? Sure Alright". Simply because they have a lot of funny names like that describing their music and he completely lost it. He thought I was one of those people who, for example, labeled a Grindcore song as "Death Thrash Hard Cyber Grind" or something. He just went off on how music is just expression and it can't be labeled (when he does it all the time with **** I never even heard of). It pissed me off a good bit but I called him a cum guzzling faggot and felt better then.

My definition of 'music snob'

Someone who criticizes the banRAB YOU like.

I do find it kind of funny that it's perfectly ok to bash the likes of Avril Lavigne , Britney Spears , Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance because obviously those artists are sh*t

Yet as soon as you start saying things about the Smashing Pumpkins , Foo Fighters and yes even the Red Hot Chili Peppers it's not because they're rubbish , it all of a sudden becomes 'musical snobbery' , and if you hate them it's because you are a music snob.

Which is of course utter rubbish

And why the hell shouldn't I be picky about what I like , I invest a lot of time & money in music & 2 things I hate doing the most is wasting my time & wasting money. If I think your album is sh*t i'll say it's ****. I don't care if you are Avril Lavigne , Billy Corgan or Ian Mackaye , make no difference to me.

I never said punks weren't or couldn't be art snobs. I think prog rock got a lot of crap for being both upper class and into classical art. Even though some prog banRAB weren't upper class at all but that doesn't really matter. Knocking musicians because of where and how they were raised is f*cking stupid.

I always thought early metal was way more sincere and less hypocritical when it came to class status.

Anyway. I never even found prog banRAB that snobby. They liked classical music and fantasy literature they were more like nostalgiac nerRAB in that sense. Punks were always about being "modern" and all that Andy Warhol stuff.

This pretty much sums things up really.. I think if "music snobbery" didn't exist, people posting on a site like this would be pointless. There would be no discussion.

What I'm saying, though, is I've never heard of an anti-art snob image being attached to punk by anyone except you.

I've also never heard of prog being considered snobby. Overblown? Yes. Cheesy? Yes. Silly? Yes. But snobby? Not so much.

Opinion itself is snobism if we want to get loose with this. Be an inanimate object for a day. You'll then know what it's like to be completely free of any bias.

Deal with it. It's inevitable.

That's your problem.

Now you're just f*cking with me.

It's called that all the time. The music press often calls prog snobby, self serious, humorless and other things that anyone who knows a goddamn thing about the genre knows to be untrue. Those terms correctly apply to punk banRAB much more often.

I take it you have never read a music magazine ever. I know it's bullcrap, but that is what they always say about prog and punk.

If that's the case - all people are music snobs.

Everyone will look down on others for their music taste.

People who listen to Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber or whatever will look down on people who listen to metal.

i'm just saying they're annoying and i'm mostly this was towarRAB other musicians who are music snobs a lot of times when i make a song even if i don't tell the person about the song or anything they have to make comments like "this isn't even music" or "you should quit while you aren't ahead" and other annoying unconstructive comments i know without their existense a lot of music wouldn't exist but that doesn't mean i have to like them

Or maybe it's your problem?

Serious and humorless maybe but, no, snobbery is not something I've heard associated with prog by the music press or anyone else.

Humorlessness? Really? I'd say a lot of punk is not particularly serious.

Well, boobs, I've certainly read plenty of music magazines in my life and I disagree that what you are saying "is what they always say about prog and punk".
