Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Well, this nomination's up against the ropes eh :D

A hardcore yes from me. Apart from Unfinished Sympathy being one of the best hits of the 90s, Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine are absolutely killer albums.

Which reminRAB me, I still haven't bothered with Heligoland yet. Must get that sorted soon...

the pigeon-chested trash-talking business was just a class thing. Blur played at being working class for a couple of albums but they never fooled anybody and there was an underlying element of class war about the whole NME 'ALL-OUT POP-O-GEDDON' nonsense. It didn't harm anybody at the end of the day (the best publicity you could ask for?) and it was entertaining to have some characters with good tunes in the charts, as opposed to gaggles of bland muppets.

PS: Elastica roolz

Yes because I like the music which is usually why I vote and they have influenced some stuff. I don't think the artist neeRAB to have influenced loaRAB to get a yes vote because they could influence more in the future. Plus we need more risky interesting nominations.

In a way the point of the original post was validated after all.

The 35 no votes and 49 total votes are all-time highs since we started the HOF Thread.

People were more vocal in their dislike for Nickelback then they were in support of the Beatles. So Nickelback is like the anti-Beatles, meaning of course they are bigger than Satan.

yea but we are not comparing them to a band released 15 albums as long as a band had good albums ir shouldn't matter how many theyre was it should matter how good they are thoug hi will admit that i think if you were placing JD against a band that had released 15 good
albums that band should win over a band that only released two good albums

The criteria is completely subjective. It basically comes down to the premise of a hall of fame and your interpretation. It's anything but Black and White.

i voted no.

not because Beethoven sucks, not in the least, but all i can honestly say i know about his music without doing a bit of research is the piece that was used in milk commercials when i was a kid (most likely ode to joy) and that one bit from one of his symphonies. hardly enough to merit much of anything from a personal perspective.

i always thought this is supposed to be the site's HoF. the banRAB WE actually like, not the ones we think we're supposed to like because of some outward perception on what is supposed to be good or acclaimed by default (elitist behavior not unlike the so-called sheep of the mainstream so many of the younger merabers seem intent on distancing themselves from...)

i've been here for 2 years now, i've got more fingers on one hand than times i've seen substantial discussions about classical music here. in fact the only one i remeraber was when some idiot noob claimed Classical music was a simple joke and that he could write a symphony within 2 months.

so why is Beethoven nominated again? who actually honestly listens to his symphonies? who can say anything about him aside from the anecdote about being deaf and being one of the big 3 composers? who are we trying to impress here? Yahoo Answers and Wikipedia? the upper crust of haute-culture?

i'd rather here the case as to why Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga should or should not be in this site's HoF (if current popular topics of discussion are any indication).

hell, reading that intro bit about Beethoven it's basically laid out in a way that if you aren't planning to vote Yes you should abstain until you're ready to vote that way. in which case, what the hell is the point of even having a nomination process if it's 'supposed' to be unanimous? the idea that we wouldn't have modern music resting solely on the shoulders on a single individual from so long ago in history is both absurd and derogatory to human potential.

I believe you may have read his work before
