Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

It's a powerful yes from me, it's been said elsewhere here recently that Joy Division were exactly what was needed in Britain after the punk scene and i agree. Here were a band that took the elements of punk that made it exciting and blended it with their own unique imagery and style.
Musically they were brilliant, Stephen Morris' solid percussion, Bernard Sumner's in my opinion underrated and individual guitar playing and those basslines from Hooky. On top of that you had Ian Curtis, a frontman who should be celebrated simply because he did it his way and did it damn well.
I think the thing i love most about Joy Divison was that they created these huge sweeping epic sounRABcapes, making the music sound absolutely huge despite there only being a couple of people playing it.
Just as uplifting as they were brutally moody, they deserve to be in there.

PM it to me though. King Crimson are currently untaken by the way.

As many as people want/'till it gets old/whatever. It's a running thing really.

This should be interesting.

I really like this band, they play an interesting twist on conventional stereotypes of metal and are certainly a welcome reprieve from the trolls of post-hardcore. I rarely find myself listening to them anymore since I gradually migrated away from that kind of music but I still enjoy the odd track or two. I noticed you omitted their best one. ;)

Also to note (not that it really matters) Chris Pennie might be the best live drummer I've ever listened to.

I listened to that album today for the first time. Wasn't really impressed, to tell you the truth. I don't get what the big deal about it is. And I think that one track on there was pretty laughable: "IIIII LOOOOOOOOVE JEEESUUUUUUUUUUS."

I disagree but whatever. If people played "fair" and just voted objectively then we'd have a hall of fame consisting of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and the Who; which would be boring.

I like Highway 61 more, but Blonde on Blonde is really good. On Highway 61, there are just so many good songs and no bad or boring or even mediocre ones.

Personally my favorite on Highway 61 is Queen Jane Approximately

-Former guitarist John Frucsiante was ranked 18 in Rolling Stone's list "The 100 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time"

-Rolling Stone once said "if there were a Most Valuable Bass Player award given out in rock, Flea could have laid claim to that bitch ten years running"

-MusicRadar put Chad Smith in sixth place on their list of the "50 Greatest Drummers Of All Time"

-Blood Sugar Sex Magik was ranked 310 out of Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

First of all, Iron Maiden is brought up constantly on rabroad, they're definitely one of the most important metal banRAB that I can think of.

Secondly, I agree with nonsubmissivewife. I think what she meant was that we used to have hundreRAB of votes for nominations. The last one ended with, I think, less than 20. And she's not trying to be a bitch to you, xEMGx. She's saying the users that have been here for a long time haven't been voting or saying too much in here. Though a lot of them have already said their piece for Iron Maiden so far.

I don't listen to that much metal and the list of influences may not be so great but they are essential in the history of the genre. And they had an unbelievable run of recorRAB, producing more quality albums than most banRAB could ever dream of. I used to listen to Nuraber of the Beast at least weekly. Iron Maiden gets a yes from me.

No, I agree with you. I think the Hall of Fame should be about musical importance over whether you like a band personally. I like Blur. I haven't based any of my decisions on my personal interest of a band, but instead their influence/ importance in music history. I'm just undecided and yet to make a decision of whether Blur have that influence and importance in music, enough to be included in the Hall of Fame.

Ludwig Van Beethoven
Beethoven2.jpg
Ludwig Van Beethoven (12/17/1770-3/26/1827) was a very influential classical composer who was composing during the 1790's through the 1820's (not including "Piano Concerto no.0" which was composed in the 1780's but released posthumously). He was crucial in the transitional period from classical to romantic music. The composer popularized motifs, pairing choirs with orchestras, and much more. Amazingly, he was deaf when composing some of his most famous works. He has written staples that many beginning musicians learn such as Ode To Joy and Fur Elise. The opening to his fifth symphony is equally as iconic (ba-da-da-dum). The icon was also the first to use tempo markings such as

, which is ubiquitous today. In addition to writing great music, he also played piano, and was known for his improvisation skills. His symphonies alone have been recorded over 70 times. His influence includes Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, and Schubert as well as rock icons such as The Beatles, Queen, and Nirvana. "Mark that young man; he will make himself a name in the world!"* -Mozart *It is uncertain if Mozart actually said this, but biographer Otto Jahn got it from "good authority." *

BEFORE YOU VOTE NO: If you do not enjoy the music of Beethoven please remeraber that this also honers the influence an artist has, and Beethoven influenced almost all music, from rap to metal to blues to demoscene. Well, what evidence do we have to believe Beethoven's influence? Who did Beethoven influence? - Yahoo! Answers Musical improvisation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -----> improvisation is a huge part of Jazz, and most Rock music. Keep that in mind. Also, chances are, if you are voting no, you have not heard much of Beethoven's music, or classical music in general. In this case, you should not vote at all. Plus, there are a few Beethoven pieces I will bet money you know (if you haven't heard the later three pieces posted above... you have probably been living in a cave your whole life.)
