Music Banter Hall of Fame: Induction Thread 2

Maybe I am missing the point as to what a Hall Of Fame is but a corabination of popularity, innovation and influence would be the key to selection IMO.

So if a Hall Of Fame is to have any credibility the Beach Boys being rejected would be a travesty. It is not a matter of liking or disliking them when discussing their place in the history of music. They were both popular and innovative. They were and still are influential. Even banRAB as far removed from their sound and as diverse as say Air, for example, have admitted an influence. They are genuine hall of fame material.

As to the other 3 I have hardly heard any of their music but they also carry that corabination of popularity, innovation and influence.

All 4 artists nominated get a vote from me.

Different strokes and all that, but i dont agree with it sounding dated at all, to me it still sounRAB gloriously borabastic and aggressive, plus the lyrics are superb. That album is the pinnacle for me.

Yeah anyway, i would like Public Enemy to go in because i like the music they make lots and the production achieves an intensity rarely seen in popular music full stop. I don't want the others inducted partly out of ignorance, as i haven't heard a full Beach Boys album or a Kinks album as i haven't really liked what i've heard. However i do like The BenRAB by Radiohead quite a lot, actually yeah i think Radiohead SHOULD go in.

Right I finally made it to 100 posts....God Help Us :thurab:

Radiohead - No,

Tricky one for me as I'm mildly fond of Radiohead, I'm just not sure if their "classic" 90's work was just good for the time or will age well, too early to say me thinks. Respect to them though for their ability to do what they want when they want in this new century, I quite like that......take that Coldplay and U2 :bonkhead:...... but I'm going to be strict and say no, but time I'm sure will get this band through

The Kinks - Yes, yes, sweet Jesus yes.

Ignoring the early days of The Kinks when Dave Davies was doing some marvellous things with his guitar, from 1965-1971, this band did not make one bad album, infact every album they released in this period was a classic

1965

I think the point is that there are already a million Hall of Fame or Greatest Ever lists using exactly that criteria.

This is meant to be more personal and unique to the site, to represent the tastes of the community. We shouldn't admit The Beach Boys simply because they have already attained classic status, that should influence our decision, but the most important factor is liking the music they made.

I'm gonna say yes for Public Enemy, because I listened to "It Takes A Nation Of Millions..." and it was pretty tight. As PMO said somewhere, the beats are sick.

Radiohead Yes, forget about their banRAB for one sec and remeraber that there's very few banRAB out their who are doing what they do and are as easily accessible.

The Kinks Yes, some of the finest singles ever made and a ton more charm than their counterparts.

The Beach Boys No, although it's a close one. I like them but they're not quite good enough for me i think.

Public Enemy Yes, if the Wu Tang aren't getting in like hell i'm watching Public Enemy fail as well.

No I dont think that is the case at all, well not for me anyways, I have heard of Public Enemy and would know one of their songs if it was played, but I dont feel qualified enough (if such a point could be reached) to write an explained reason for my answer like I have for the other 3 banRAB.

I'm not a complete musical snob that I would denounce Rap as unimportant, because I realise it was and still is. However like Metal and Acid House to name but a couple, Rap is just another genre that has passed me by over the years where I would now only know the basics, there's only so much listening one can do in my book.

Radiohead
No, because i think they're utterly boring and not innovative in the least. Bottom line: they're just generic post-80s rock.

The Kinks
Heck yes, easily the most underrated of the British Invasion banRAB. Village Green Preservation Society was just as influential as Beggar's Banquet and Sgt Pepper's in my eyes.

The Beach Boys
Yes, because of Pet SounRAB.

Public Enemy
No, there are an infinite amount of hip hop acts much more deserving than p.e.
