Music Banter Hall of Fame: Induction Thread 2

Radiohead
Yes because they've consistantly been at the forefront of innovation and seem to be ever evolving throughout their career. While my personal favorite Radiohead album isn't typically regarded as one of their better Pablo Honey still manages to send chills down my spine every time I hear the album. Truly one of the best things to come out of the 90s.
The Kinks
Yes because they're The Kinks. One of the funnest banRAB to sing along to, ever. While they're a band I don't actually know much about I can say with 100% certainty that they managed to blend upbeat vocal harmonies with guitar oriented rock music better than anyone else could. When I'm feeling down The Kinks are one of my go-to banRAB.
The Beach Boys
Probably a yes, I'll get back to this after I give them a few spins. My mom appreciates them far more than I do.
Public Enemy
I'm going to have to say no. I just don't connect to the music at all. It does nothing for me and for the most part I can't appreciate the cultural relevance.

It seems that they are not getting in because so many people have not even heard them which I find perplexing. Even if you don't like Rap, their importance is known and maybe if people heard them then they may end up liking Rap. I'm not saying put them in just because they are the token Rap band but I would have hoped that polls like this would at least encourage people to listen to them :(

Radiohead:
yes> they"re the rab glory boys.

The Kinks:
YES. I like them and they influence a ton of thecurrent banRAB I like

Beach Boys:
Voted yes in the HOF, but it's a no here not good ENOUGH

Pulic Enemy:
No. I don't like them. I dont find them influential othe rhtne spawning socially concius hip-hop bores.

Be quiet darling the adults are talking......

My opinion of you has nothing to do with whether you like a particular band or not and i'm not sure what was 'douchey'(what a horrible americanism) about my post.

Radiohead - No. I have all the albums on CD (bar Rainbows) and grew up with the Oxford goons, but they'll get in regardless, plus we've been growing apart the last few years. *sniff*

The Kinks - Yes. Forget f*cking Lola; these guys released a concept album about the virtues of a rural pre-war timewarp Britain and the trappings of celebrity and self-indulgence at the height of the 'summer of love', when students were prancing around like idiots on drugs seeing things they would later discover weren't there.

The Beach Boys - Yes. Purely for Pet SounRAB. To this day nothing sounRAB like it in pop and falls well outside the category of 'surf hit'. And if you forget taking the music on it's own merits think of the technological restrictions Wilson was working with at the time and what he accomplished in the studio! Macca has repeatedly asserted that Sgt.Pepper's would not have been the same had Pet SounRAB not been made. And like Pepper the Beach Boys' only truly great record is an example of truly contemporary classical music.

Public Enemy - Yes. As Lucifer Sam pointed out there were other great socially conscious groups but PE were first, and nobody had the intensity of The Borab Squad. The hardest-hitting, most densely-layered sample-mashing production team ever. Also from a lyrical POV their politics were not only more stark and confrontational but more down-to-earth than the pacifistic Nation raps of, well, the rest of rap at the time. If I'd heard their raps in the 80's as a suburban white kid they would've educated more than confused me and that's commendable.

Not sure what other hip-hop nominations there are but if we're not getting the Wu we need somebody like PE in the hall of fame to represent the most enduring African-American musical form since the blues.

Burn Hollywood burn I smell a riot
Goin' on first they're guilty now they're gone
Yeah I'll check out a movie
But it'll take a black one to move me
Get me the hell away from this TV
All these news and views are beneath me
Cause all I hear about is shots ringin' out
So I rather kick some slang out
All right fellas let's go hand out
Hollywood or would they not
Make us all look bad like I know they had
But some things I'll never forget yeah
So step and fetch this sh*t
For all the years we looked like clowns
The joke is over smell the smoke from all around
Burn Hollywood burn

They made 3 exceptional albums and another one of top quality, are ridiculously influential in the realms of hip hop and IMO, piss all over the Beach Boys. A travesty

Neither will be. If PE, ATCQ or Wu Tang arent then there is not a chance in hell of Aesop or NWA getting in.

Radiohead: Yes. I'm not their biggest fan and they get far too much hype. However they aim to constantly expand their sound and are talented musicians.

The Kinks. Yes Not as innovative as The Beatles but arguably better in my book and quintessentially English.

The Beach Boys . No Even allowing for the fact that I don't like them, i don't think they had as much impact in the UK (except for The Beatles) and they are mainly remerabered for surf hits.

Public Enemy. Yes Crept into the mainstream whilst never compromising their principles and still eminently listenable.

you would hope so, I am still hoping good old white guilt will come in to play and make them vote yes on Public Enemy anyway. what a bunch of racists bastarRAB

Radiohead - Yes. Consistently pushing the boundaries with every release for a decade. Never afraid to experiment and subvert expectations, they manage to attain a standard rarely matched, and its all on their own terms.

The Kinks - Yes. Ray Davies is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Being English, one has a certain sentimentality with the Kinks because they are your quintessential English band, the lyrics are identifiable. Not to mention at least three superb albums.

The Beach Boys - No. Overrated by an American society desperate for a band to stem the flow of the British invasion. They made a couple of good albums but i dont think theyre good enough for hall of fame status.

Public Enemy. They are culturally important, hugely so i'd say. They also made two of the best hip hop albums of all time. For the impact they had and the quality of their output, i say yes.
