I'm having two problems with tolkien's solution.

First off, I can't install the update. I get a pop-up stating: "Error in directory .. The selected file(s) couldn't get extracted."

So I simply tried going through the process without the update, and when I try to convert the file, I get this error: "Error Number: 75 / Error Description: Path/File access error".

Anybody know what is wrong?

Hey whats up. Not sure if you had a chance to work on this yet. I got an email that you responded again but I don't see anything? thanks

This piece of paper Icon represents a Executable File. You need to run it and it will install the song on your ringtones directory.

When I follow these directions, and I drag the .DM file into the white space in MyPhoneExplorer, my phone pops up with the message "Saved in Music on Memory Stick." But then nothing else. The "Use now" option doesn't come up. The .DM file definitely is on my memory stick, in the "Other" folder and I can't do anything with it.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Windows Vista
Sony Ericsson W580i
MyPhoneExplorer version 1.7.4

(I posted this in another ringtone topic at the start of the month before noticing this one stickied)

I'm fairly sure that this isn't just the case for my phone, so I'll add a way to use mp3s as ringtones.

Convert the mp3 to mono.

I've been doing this since the day I got my phone out of the box. I use my DAW, but you can find an audio editor on download.com.

Dalton,, thanks for all your hardwork!!!! but aim having a problem with the file transfer, when the file is about halfway done transferring, the phone breaks off the connection. I try again, but this time when ever I click on files under editors, the phone connects and diconnects and then the famous explorer error reporting window pops up. I have unistalled the software at least 4 timems upgraded the phone but still the same results. Also the phone I con in the tray that you speak of does not have a file manager..

Thanks in advance

i had the same problem as johnny but when i try to transfer the file from the other folder it wont let me. it has a little key with a line through it. also i was a little confused by what you said about tranfering then disconnecting then moving. any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I read your tutorial but I am having some issues with the conversion. I am running window's vista on my computer, and I am using Sony Ericsson PC suite 4.0

I can't seem to find the option for "file manager", and the file is saved to "other" in my phone memory. I can't move that file anywhere. What should I do? Sorry that my post is so late, but I suspect it is the suite that is having problems.

Thanks!

I'm getting an error message after I have clicked on the ringtone and selected create DRM content a window pops up that says "could Not create a DRM subfolder in the original content folder" and then after I click okay I get another window that says "an error occured while saving the files". what do I need to do?

Okay, so I got the ringtone to work as was instructed by Dalton. However, now that I am trying to install a second ringtone, I cannot see the Memory Stick and Phone Memory folders under file manager (it just show a picture of the phone). When I drag the file into the window with the picture of the phone, its says it cannot read or copy the DM file. Does anyone know how I might be able to view the the Memory Stick and Phone Memory folders once again?

I am having a problem.

On my W850i it will say that the ringtone I made is the ringtone that is on the phone but when I try calling my cell the 'Sony Ericsson' ring will come up plus it wont let my preview the ring tone on my phone.

I need help too please.. i followed everything and i can use my ringtones... there's a red line going through them.. what does this mean?

I'd reinstall pc suite, just to be sure, it should work with vista, the latest version is here
sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/pcsuite/w580i?lc=en&cc=ca (I can't do links, add www)
Are you sure you're in phone mode?

I've put a few files into the folder as ring tones.. how could I go about deleting them? When I try to do so, an error message comes up saying "Could not delete file or folder. The destination path could not be found," and if I unplug then connect the USB cable and go back to the folder, the file isn't there anymore. I tried deleting the ringtone on the phone itself as well to no avail.
