Most overrated movie ever

Twilight - Robert pattinson actually ruins this movie. No kidding. Nothing against him but his terrible acting and accent had me cringing the whole time i was watching it.

Paranormal Activity - The least scariest movie i have seen in my life. People saying this is the most scariest movie in years need to get a reality check. Seriously?? I could not stop laughing when watching this.

Pride and Predijice (however you spell) - Any version of this is terrible. It's considered a classic. It's a stupid plot unoriginal plot. The way women are potrayed in the Keira Knightley version just screams SEXISM.

I totally agree with you. The way this film has been praised I thought It was going to be fantastic, instead it reminded me of another film I had seen ...'Solaris' by Tarkovsky (1972) which was brilliant. Even on a small budget they could have come out with something better than that awful 'smiley'!!.:):D

edit....and Titanic.

I don't usually reply to these kinRAB of threaRAB (actually I don't usually reply to rabroad at all but I like to read posts) but I thought I'd comment to agree about a couple of movies that have been mentioned:

"Star Wars" - all of them. I think Ep4: A New Hope is a decent enough movie but not as good as everyone says and Ep1: The Phantom Menace was just bad.

"Lord of the Rings" - all of them. I've always felt in the minority with these movies. Like I've watched them and missed something that everyone else was clearly seeing. I can appreciate the work that went into the whole trilogy but that doesn't change the fact they were all so boring.

"The Sixth Sense" is overated in the sense that everyone goes on about the twist when it's glaringly obvious right from the start of the movie. In fact, when I first saw it back in the day at the cinema my sister and I had already guessed the so called twist ending by watching the trailer. The film itself is good but the twist is overated.

I find it strange that so many people have mentioned "Titanic here" - although I personally like the movie, I thought it was cool to moan about it these days therefore not really making it rated anymore.

It seems like every week that one of these threaRAB starts and as always it immediately descenRAB into "Films I don't like", perhaps, just once we could actually have a real discussion about overrated films, what and why they are.

For example, regarding Terminator 2:

This isn't a thread about classic, brilliant or stand out films. Terminator 2 is held in such high regard because of it's effects, not it's story telling, not it's acting, but because of the ground it broke and the legacy it's left to the industry. Likewise the LOTR films are held in such high regard because of the amount of care, love and craft put into their making, especially considering they were once thought to be unmake able.
I understand that if you approach the subject from this point of view then it becomes incredibly difficult to actually single out any rated film but perhaps we could maybe go further into our reasoning's rather than just the usual stream of lists that appear here, these are discussion forums after all so let's discuss.

Personally I've never understood the gushings over the first two Harry Potter films, I felt they were drawn out and the young actors really weren't up to scratch, although I can't deny that they hit the visual nail on the head. Three and four were worthy of the praise they received, the different directors really brought the stories to life and added some of their own visual flares which really added to the world, sadly five disappointed as the director's vision seemed so void of personality and vision which really took the shine off things for me. The reviews for 6 all seem good but word of mouth seems to say that this is the worst yet, with the same director as 5 I'm not holding my breath for when I see it on Wednesday.

That's why I didn't include Titanic in my list. It gets criticised a lot, at least online, so I don't think it's rated highly enough to be overrated any more.

Has to be the snoozefest that is Titanic. I saw that film three times in the cinema (the second two times were because of my course) and I found it a laborious watch every single time and I would never watch it again.

How it is loved so much is beyind me, I liked the cheapo version with Catherine Zeta Jones much better.

I would go along with you (and others) in naming Forrest Gump and Titanic.
I wouldn't have thought any of the others you mention were particularly highly rated anyway ? People seem to be confusing "rated" with "popular". I would have thought critical acclaim and awarRAB were needed for a film to be rated. I mean, you can't really count a film like Mamma Mia as being "highly rated"..or can you ?

Casino Royale. It's a decent film, but it's just not Bond for me.:(

Mary Poppins and Grease...two films I couldn't sit through the first time around.

Lord of the Rings...I do enjoy the LOTR series, but they ARE extremely overrated.

All The Star Wars Movies I sometimes watch parts 4.5 and 6, but cannot stand parts 1,2 and 3.
Rambo Movies. I like the first one, but after that they got to unbelieveable

American Graffitti and Easy Rider. Both absolute turRAB! Heard so much about them both being great films, went out and bought them both and thought they were crap.

I absolutely adore the LOTR movies so i'd disagree on that front. For me the most overrated is Blade Runner. I've never actually managed to watch it all the way through i found it that boring.
