Summary: When California girl Susan Murphy is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. Alerted to the threat of this new monster, the military jumps into action and Susan is captured and secreted away to a covert government compound. There, she is renamed Ginormica and placed in confinement with a ragtag group of other monsters: the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement is cut short, however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. In a moment of desperation, The President is persuaded by General W.R. Monger to enlist the motley crew of Monsters to combat the Alien Robot and save the world from imminent destruction.

I wasn't sure what the plot of this movie was, but now that I do know...it sounds absolutely ridiculous. But hey, I'm not the one the movie has to impress, I guess.

Eberts got his review up. He didn't like it:shrug: But then, his reviews of most of these type of movies recently have been awful. So bleh on him.

I probably wont get to see this in theaters, but I'm gonna get it when it comes out on DVD. I don't hate DW, they're the second best producers of animated features in America (not that there's much competition...)

Sure. Why not?

I won't be seeing the 3D version of this. The town I live in barely has theaters, and what they do have are pretty poor. No fancy schmancy stuff for us.

But I'm not really sure I would want to see it if it's one of those things you have to wear special glasses for. I wear regular glasses and it's hard to put extra glasses on at the same time.

I'll also be honest and say that even though it's not getting that many great reviews, I'm still interested in it because of the B-Movie monsters, especially the 50-Foot-Woman, which was an idea they could never really express fully in the limitations of 1950s live-action, so it will be interesting to see here.

I saw this tonight, in 3D. I wasn't planning to see it at all, let alone on opening night, but I was with my cousins and we thought it might be fun.

The characters weren't memorable at all, and apart from Seth Rogen's Bob the Blob, they weren't really funny either. Susan/Ginormica was a pretty dull main character-- standard generic 'flawless heroine'. Furthermore, her expressions, acting and even her voice (although I know it was a different actress) reminded me a lot of Fiona from Shrek. The villain was particularly boring, and it wasn't clear whether he was supposed to be funny or menacing-- it's clearly difficult to pull off both, and this character didn't really succeed.

Also, Colbert was sort of funny as the president, but every time he was onscreen I kept thinking "I'd rather just watch Colbert in live action than this dull cartoon imitation of him." And the filmmakers seemed to have forgotten about him about halfway into the movie.

This was the first time I saw a movie in 3D, and I wasn't particularly impressed by it. Barring a couple of in-your-face examples of it, I largely just forgot about its presence, which sort of seems like a waste of the millions of dollars it probably cost to make it 3D. And what's more, there were several scenes with very noticeable 3D-effects glitches where there were 3 copies of the character instead of 1. Mostly involving the army general character, I think.

All in all, it wasn't that great or memorable, but it was fairly good fluff entertainment. It'll probably do well.

The movie is currently rated 68% at Rottentomatoes. Not particularly impressive.

Well, where's your review?

Not everyone watches a movie on opening day. Give it time.

I haven't seen it yet.

True, not everybody but a good amount of people do. And, seeing as how this is ToonZone you'd expect more people would have seen it.

Actually, this is Toon Zone. Two words. Not one. Learn it. Memorize it. Respect it. :p

And don't forget that today was a weekday and most people were busy with school, college and work. I would expect this thread to get more active during the weekend.

but it was also a Friday night. A lot of people, especially high school and college kids, like to hang out on Friday night. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, but the lack of activity kind of gives the impression that members here don't care for DreamWorks. Which is kind of true. I've seen a good amount of anti-DW threads in the past year. And especially anti-Katzenberg threads.

Frankly, I’m not watching this movie because it just doesn’t seem good. If there were an alternate universe where Pixar made the exact same movie, I still wouldn’t be interested in watching it. The negative reviews it’s getting certainly doesn’t make me want to reconsider.

That’s one of the main things that bothered me from all of the previews; I’ve said it before, but I value characters more than anything else when I watch something, and if the characters aren’t engaging in one way or another, I have no reason to check it out. None of these characters really stood out to me, and some of them actually made me dislike them. And that’s from the previews. Not exactly a good start for me so I have no reason to watch the full thing. Maybe I’ll watch it in a year or two when it makes its way to cable.

Early estimates for Friday are in and the movie made $16 million. Expect an opening of about $50 million.

I don't think it looks like a masterpiece or whatever, but I am a Seth Rogen fan and his character seems funny from what I've seen in the previews.

I don't remember seeing any of the previews much, but my uncle and cousin both agreed that all his funnier lines were spoiled in the previews.

I am actually planning on seeing this. I work at a movie theater so since I get free tickets to movies on my days off I have really got nothing to lose by seeing it. I'm a Hugeeee Seth Rogen fan as well. So I got to see this. At worst I'm never gonna watch this movie again.

Saw the trailer for it when I went to see Coraline, and it looked like a stupid kids' movie for the most part. I might watch it if it eventually plays on Cartoon Network just to see Colbert.
