I saw the film earlier this afternoon and came away pretty happy. It isn't nearly as well written as some other recent animated films, but there are moments (not in the previews) that are very funny. Each of the monsters have their moments, but the film is basically built around Ginormica. If you like and sympathize for her character's situation, you can easily get into the film. The 3D effect is very well done and better than most of the other recently released films that used the technology. Specifically, if you see the film in 3D, note the scenes where the general is flying with his rockets along side of Ginormica where the illusion of depth is astounding.
I'd say, if you are at all considering seeing the film, you should do so now and experience the 3D effect. Dreamworks might not be consistently good in their releases, but few of them deserve to be dismissed entirely.
