"Monsters vs. Aliens" Talkback (Spoilers)

I'm going to see it at some point in the future because

1) I'm a mark for classic movie monsters and the movies that riff on them,

and

2) It seems like a good way to try out the new Imax theater in the mall. They're showing this movie there in Imax 3-D.

You know, so am I. But I find the monsters in MvA to be kind of disappointing. I get the Blob and the 50-Foot Woman, and even the bug-headed guy, but what the heck is the green gorilla supposed to be?

As it is, I'll wait to rent this.

Yeah, I think this is the basic run-down.

Ginormica- 50 foot woman
B.O.B.- The Blob
Missing Link- Creature From the Black Lagoon
Dr. Cockroach- The Fly
Insectasaurus- one of Mothra's children (as well as various other kaiju creatures and giant bugs).

From what I heard, this is a rental at best. I'm not a Dreamworks hater, but I usually don't expect the greatest movie ever from them. Actually animation wise, this movie is a lot more appealing to look at verses... say, Madagascar?

But it didn't look very funny at all from the previews, and if that spoiled all the funny parts, then I definitely won't get much out of this movie. What a shame, the animation looks nice.

That could be fun.

I wonder what they'd do with it since you can't really repeat the same alien invasion plot.

Oh, I know!

Monsters vs Giant Bugs.

They could riff on old movies like Them!, Deadly Mantis and Tarantula.

Or maybe:

Monsters vs Dinosaurs.

Sort of play off of stuff like The Land Unknown and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.

While I loved both Antz and A Bug's Life, Antz has a brash, adult tone that I find particularly bracing. It's also the only celeb-crammed Dreamworks animated feature where all of the celebs deliver terrific performances.

I liked that movie a lot (especially the babelicious Chel... :D), and it was a great candidate for a sequel.

Well, Susan was the main character. BOB was just the comic relief. Too much BOB would have gotten annoying. Then again, I liked the non-BOB scenes. So, that's where we differ.

Considering the reaction most critics and audiences have had to him, I'm willing to lay down money that it will be a B.O.B Centered movie, or he will have a much bigger part in it.

Still does not mean that they should.

I thought the movie was alright. My main issues were the fast pacing with the invasion, the main villain, and Stephen Colberts' performance as the president (One of the things I was looking forward to in the movie). The jokes did get tiresome towards the end as a large chunk of the lines started to fall flat, but overall, I got a few chuckles from both the first half of the film and then towards the end.

The good points came from the 3-D experience mostly. Loved that. Then next in line were the likable cast of monsters. They all had their own unique charm, yet my favorites were Dr. Cockroach (for Hugh Laurie doing a nice job with his evil laughs.) and Insectasauros for being...kinda...cute.

and turning into a fluffy butterfly. =]

Whoa. I just noticed something.
There might be a very very subtle VeggieTales refrence in this movie.
B.O.B starting out as a tomato, then genetically enhanced = B.O.B the Tomato =

?

Hey, it could be possible..

I'd rate this but I haven't seen it so I won't, though I don't think that I'll be seeing it because it looked fairly mediocre, not to mention having a hamster sidekick which we've seen in Bolt and a main cast that looks a bit like:
