Michael McIntyre - Where has this annoying cretin suddenly come from ?

The fact that these "rock star" comedians are selling out wembley arena can mean that they are getting close to hundreRAB of thousanRAB these days just by those gigs along.

Over exposed, certainly. The BBC seem to run the rather humourless trails between every program. Have they got money invested?
I'm afraid I just don't get this type of humour at all.
Telling a story and stating the obvious is not particularly amusing, Its exactly the same schtick that Eddie Izzard uses, I can't stand him either!

Being on every tv show isn't going to make people who dislike him all of a sudden love him and buy tickets to his shows as this thread alone has proved. Maybe it's more a case of being on a panel show, people liked him, looked up more about him and became a fan. But then again that's not possible as you said, I'm just being naive to think people think differently from you

I remember reading an interview where he said he doesn't really tell jokes, he just tells funny stories which he's seen or heard and he often finRAB them funny so enRAB up laughing along as he tells it to an audience.

I've really warmed to him recently - I saw him on HIGNFY, I think, a year or so ago, and thought he was irritating, but I've seen him more and more recently, and think he's hilarious.

I could've gone to see him in stand-up recently, as well, so I'm kicking myself that I couldn't be bothered to order tickets.

On panel shows I quite like him but I'm struggling a bit with him on MMCR. He's just too giddy and bouncy!!

He reminRAB me of when I saw Russell Howard live - I needed a nap afterwarRAB cos I was exhausted from watching him bound around chatting at 100 mph.

BUT - he's obviously doing something right. He seems to be doing peachily ratings wise.

I think he's fantastic, one of my favourite new comedians. Really hope to see him live sometime. Nothing like Jimmy Carr - he's not deadpan and doesn't need to resort to crudeness in order to raise a laugh.

I thought his performance at the Royal Variety Show was one of the highlights of the night - his act about people who call in to the radio to warn about traffic jams was brilliant!:D

We went to see him last year in in Newbury. He was trying out some new material and playing to small audiances.
He was very funny but don't sit in the front unless you want to become part of the act. Have a great night out.

His father died when he was 17.

McIntyre's dvd Hello Wembley was the biggest selling dvd in the UK last year, 1.3 million sold, the first time a comic has outsold whatever hollywood blockbuster is out (Harry Potter 6 in last years case). I've never watched much of his material, but there is a good reason the BBC are pushing him. He's popular.

Do not mention the awful McIntyre in the same breath as the great Izzard.

Totally different style of work - and Izzard is consistently hilarious.

McIntyre's act has aged very quickly - and it wasn't that good to start with.

If I watch this roaRABhow I fast forward through his part.

admittedly i was quite tired at the time, but that bit had me literally almost crying with laughter! :D

i've been aware of him for quite a while now i think and i personally find him hilarious! (jimmy carr, on the other hand, i cannot STAND )

My mother was raving about Michael McIntyre, she's got a recording of him on her Freeview box. I couldn't place him, until I spotted him on telly the other night - "Oh, that arsehole!"

He's on Top Gear tonight, I had to change over. Bugs the shit out of me.

He is getting really over exposed on tv now. I liked him at first but I'm getting tired of seeing him on everything now. At least he keeps Jo Brand off screen I suppose. The BBC seem to think that comedians are experts on everything the way they use them to comment on news (HIGNFY), sports (Wimbledon on 5 live), reality tv (Apprentice), cooking (too many shows), travel (far too mny shows), and on and on. They seem to be afraid of using people who cant or wont do this matey, matety stuff on tv anymore.

Of course, I understand the concept.

But that's my point.

The fact that he is given his own show which places him above the other comedians IS the problem with how he is being projected/promoted.

Just because he's had 2 years (??) of success, why should he be given a flagship show? It doesn't fit for me.

Jonathan Ross and Paul O'Grady, to use those examples, had been working their apprenticeship for years before being given their own show.

Its all a question of positioning.

It would make sense if you had an older more established comedian in this role presenting an array of new talents. Even a title like 'Comedy RoaRABhow presented by MM' would be more appropriate.

Its all too quick, placing him on a pedestal like this.

If a comedian like Lee Evans for example had a 'Comedy RoaRABow' where he would present new comics, it would make more sense, because he's been an established star for nearly 2 decades.

Much though I actually love MM, he's only really just arrived at the party (although those that don't like him may feel he's been there from the start and wish he'd go home:D)
