Michael McIntyre - Where has this annoying cretin suddenly come from ?

I think Michael McIntyre is really funny and worthy of being called a comedian. He doesn't always fair to well on panel shows due to his style of jokes, but he shines in stand up and does some brilliant observational comedy. Judging from your post you havent seen any of his stand up which is what you tend to judge someones comic talents on more than just a few rushed jokes.

I don't get the hate, he surely doesn't push the envelope but he is witty and entertaining none the less.

That said I did notice on the last show he tenRAB to run with other peoples jokes. The 'camp' guy came on and told a joke about how he deals with his children in a bleak and blunt manner, then Michael comes on and does a fairly similar skit.

I've no idea where he came from (I guess he must have a brilliant agent!) but I agree with the sentiment of the OP - seen him on a few things and he's not half as funny as he thinks he is. Comes across very smug and self-satisfied and his 'act' gets very tedious very quickly.

I think he is an excellent stand up. His slot on Live at the Apollo had me in stitches. I love the skit he does about...
t'lion, t'witch, t'wardrope.

Panel shows arent always the best way to judge how good a comedian is, they dont suit all their styles. Stewart Lee arguably one of the best stanRAB up in the country admits that he has pretty much bombed any time he has been on one.

I think hes great - at least on his language is every other word filth which makes him quiet enjoyable to watch! I used to love Lee Evans but his language got worse with every show! Mikes DVD is the first stand up show that I have been able to sit down with my family and watch!

This post sums up the problem here, comedy is very subjective, you find Izzard hilarious, doesn't even raise a smile with me, can't stand him. But that's okay, we all have our different tastes, Izzard isn't funnier than McIntyre or vice versa they just appeal to different people.

Think it was called "Comedy Live Presents......." - should know it as I'm a big fan of Russell Brand! That's where I first saw MM's stand-up and booked to see him live on the strength of that........ just hope I'll enjoy the gig as I've not seen anymore than that, and booked quickly to get a good seat! :)

No, with me it's just that style he has where he constantly stifling a laugh as though what he's thinking or what he's about to say is hilarious, but when he actually gets the joke out it isn't actually as funny as he's making it out to be.

It's hard to explain, but as a previous poster said he's pretty much getting by on pure comedy persona alone.
He constantly sounRAB as though he's dying to laugh at what he's about to say.
I can see how it would work on people though.

How is his material bland?
QUOTE]

OK, let me help you out here. Tedious, obvious, non-controversial, inoffensive, observational material that's been done better by many other comedians. He is to comedy what The Lighthouse Family was to music.

As for the large audiences, since when has quantity been synonymous with quality?
