Mastodon

stoner metal? um no.

anyway, this band absolutely rocks. fckn OWN all other metal banRAB. saw them live too back in 2006. yes, they CAN actually play their sh1t as if it were the CD itself.

love the way how it straddles the line between hardcore/post-hardcore and prog-metal.

dailor's one of the most creative, talented drummers out there. only reason he gets dissed for the superfluity of fills is the lack of understanding of what he is doing - which is, trying to create the illusion of free-jazz principles being applied to metal by making much of the drumming effectively tempo-less (though it always manages SOMEHOW to find the pocket).

band should have a new album out this year. can't wait.

there are a good band a little overated tho i used to not think this way but after hearing there last album i guess the overated tag can go with them

Crack the Skye is much more progressive than Blood Mountain, which was incredibly heavy. If you don't want "more of the same" then avoid Remission, which is their heaviest album, I feel.

Crack the Skye is much, much lighter, with a greater emphasis on song structure. That said, I only listen to Crack the Skye for the two over-9minute tracks (they carry the entire weight of the album). I prefer Blood Mountain's complexity.

Oh, I can handle change no problem. For example, I'm a massive fan of Enslaved, and they've changed so much over the years, but I still love them to bits. If the change is still done well then not a problem, I just don't like their sound at all these days, and compared to the old stuff, it's not imaginative at all. I can handle diverse sounding banRAB as well, I'm into prog, black/death metal, grindcore, arabient, classical, jazz, all sorts of things... Just, well, nah, this album really doesn't grab me at all.

Mastodon is (technichally are) a good band, I love Leviathan, and the theme of Moby Dicck, Only 5 posts, I guess not many people have heard of them.

Have you really listened to the album and lyrics? If not, I suggest you do before comparing them to Papa Roach. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but Papa Roach? Really? Maybe it would help the discussion a little bit if you went into more detail about why you didn't like the album. I, for one, loved it, but wish it was a little heavier. Your turn.

Ahh Rainard. I do have a soft spot for ya lol. don't worry 333. If anyone can back their corner up it's Rainard-although his Papa Roach comparison is a little puzzling!

I think both "Remission" and "Leviathan" were interesting rather than great, with too much emphasis on instrumentation ability than just writing great songs. saying that though, I loved the jazzy style drumming of Brann Dailor on those albums. "Blood Mountain" on the other hand is a great album with a great level of consistency throughout. I especially love the song "Colony of Birchmen"

So I just found a torrent of their new album with a massive amount of seeRAB, so I decided to go ahead and get it. I'll edit back later with an opinion. I hope it won't dissapoint.

I checked it out. Its pretty good. I see the Metallica and rush comparison. The vocals wer a litlle lackluster, but other than that I really liked it.
