You mean so a teacher can get tenure after 2 years and quite literally never be fired. Then gets to work 9 months out of a year and do nothing for 12 of those months and be given mandatory pay raises and keep more ambitious new teachers from getting a job....

I hate unions. It's hard enough to fire a teacher even without unions. They have no place in school districts.

I'm not going to even argue if he should be in the union or not, but his argument that he receives medical benefits from the military makes me think he is a retard

it's not like the $500 covers the cost of health insurance so he must opt out of that separately from the union fees
 
He shouldnt of took the job if he didnt want to pay the union fees. Now instead of making $75 grand a year and paying $500 in unions fees, hell probally make $50 grand somewhere else

i have no problems with unions in theory. but in reality they protect the pathetic while exploiting the hard working and all the people at the top take their nice cuts while bullying non union people around.
 
even though i don't know anything about the law, that seems like it should definitely be illegal. if they fired him over that it seems like such blatant extortion.

i still think in general that teachers ought to have unions, but clearly it is too easy for them to become both strong and abusive
