Mamma Mia!

At my local Cineworld yesterday three performances were sold out. And that is after a month on release which is unheard of. Could Mamma Mia end up as one of the biggest grossing UK hits of all time? Could it end up there in the top ten of all time with the likes of Titanic, Lord Of the rings and The Full Monty? It is looking increasingly likely.

i agree from a money point of view universal will push it towarRAB the number 1 spot though with the dvd release itll be interesting whether theyll keep it on genral release or even re-release it afterwarRAB....the adverts ive seen and heard say" itll not be in the cinemas forever" well they have been saying that for about a month perhaps they like me are amazed by the endurance and appeal of this movie

Hope they've ordered enough then if it's true! We easily spend that every Saturday but I bet they'll have none left next Sat. When they were giving a free Madonna CD with her new album Hard Candy, they'd none of the three titles left by Friday. Hadn't ordered enough in.

Either that or universal will concentrate on a sequel but to be honest despite the fact a sequel would be popular and theres a lot of abba songs to use im not sure if itll work or that the abba guys would sanction one ...i read somewhere that universal had approached ms craymer to consider about writing a new story! but perhaps its better left as it is a classic and leave whilst on top !!

I seriously doubt there'll be a sequel. There are no sequels to other stage shows.. so it's unlikely they'll do one here.

Great to hear about that 2 for 1 offer though!! :D

she can sing imo. i put up this link in the thread i started about this movie. can't wait. colin firth i adore, don't know if pierce is well cast, but am hoping this is not a flop. the movie musical is coming back it seems over the last five years or so.

i have actually seen her sing... she is good.

Watched it tonight, and agree tottally with this thread about how amazing it was! It was the first time i had ever seen people clapping in a cinema! It was pure cheese, yes. But it was the best cheese i have seen for a VERY long time!

That film is a dreadful pile of bilge. If it is any indiction of what the stage musical is like then I am glad I have never wastedmoney going to see it.

Nonsense, you are just insecure of your own identity *g*

It should be obvious everybody in this thread has seen it, so there is no need to tell us what its about.

Thank God Play.com didnt let me down, today of all days. Mamma Mia turned up this morning.

Just been watching the 'Dancing Queen' scene. How much fun did they have making that I wonder???

Interesting point...I'm sure they had a lot more fun making that scene...well the whole film tbh, than I did having to sit and watch it!!!!!

I saw it tonight - absolutely loved it! It was the first time I've seen people up clapping and dancing in a cinema :D

It made me cry as well, when Donna sings Slipping Through My Fingers. My mum and I were in flooRAB, she was all "I don't want you to get married, I don't want to lose you!!":o

I agree with all your points, and especially about the singing.

I suppose if the film was made in Hollywood, it would have been filled with the beautiful people (well Meryl does have her charms ;)). It is quite endearing in that they let Pierce loose on our ears in such an untrained fashion :D
