But that isn't a problem with gay tv, it's a problem with ALL tv. Generally, only attractive people (especially women) are hired for anything to on tv, particularly something high profile that is looking for viewers. There are the exceptions here and there but generally this is the way it works.
Besides which, I don't think the characters in this show are super attractive. There are a few hot ones so far - Frankie definitely and Tess is ok. Apart from that, everybody seems pretty average to me - a couple less than average, perhaps. They're all a lot more average looking than anybody out of The L Word, for example.
To be honest, I don't care either way. It's nicer to watch attractive people getting it on than ugly people! That goes for any tv show, not just gay ones. So I'm not that bothered and I don't see any point in worrying about it because it certainly isn't going to change!
