Legal One Piece Streaming Canceled Indefinitely due to leak (update: uncancelled)

http://reporter.blogs.com/thresq/2009/05/how-much-did-piracy-hurt-wolverine-boxoffice.html But in the case of One Piece, it's worse.

I just requested One Piece here:

How ironic, a show about pirates is done in by piracy.

This freaking sucks and shame on the person who did this, shame on the person who reported it, shame on FUNimation for bad security and shame on the Japanese producers for calling it off for the incident. They're all to blame but the one I place the most blame on is the leaker. What a jerk for ruining it for everyone.

I really want FUNimation to stop allowing One Piece fansubs now. Mainly because I can only imagine what the "FANSUBZ ONLY!!!!!!!!1111" people will say about this.

But my God this is terrible. Seriously, couldn't we have at least enjoyed the first simulcast without problems? No. Some durabass has to go and steal something, and then illegally spread it across the internet.

Oh, good. I just wasn't sure who they meant exactly.

Incidentally, I checked Hulu just now. They still have episode 391 (they haven't posted 392 yet, so it wasn't there to begin with). Not only they that, they now have the dubbed versions of the first two episodes. Oh yeah, I was also at the One Piece official site, and when I tried to play episode 4, I kept getting a message that said "ERROR" in red letters (it's at the top left corner of the player in small type where they have messages like "OPENING CONNECTION", and "BUFFERING", and such). The same thing also happened when I tried playing episode 1.

Still, losing One Piece would be too big a loss, for everyone.

I just want to watch the one shounen that hasn't become a hair-pull fest legally. Is that so wrong?

It's actually possible to follow what happens in the One Piece manga without downloading a single thing. What about the people who do that and didn't mind watching since they have the general idea of what's already happened? As for why they would want to bother, you just have to look at the bursting of the industry's bubble a short ways back during the era of single volume releases priced at $20-$30 that could take as long as a year to finish. There are always some entitlement freaks that will invent any excuse to continue what they do (the latest nonsense seeming to be "I deserve uber hax video quality!"), and they're basically a lost cause. But there are also people that can be reeled in if they're offered fast delivery & an affordable price. In short, they had something to gain, whereas they get nothing out of it if people are just downloading subs in some forsaken corner of the net.

...dammit all. I guess they were an issue as well. Should've watched the last few when I had the chance. Ah well...I'll have to run quite a marathon to catch up when it's back.

Not going to happen. The move toward internet streaming as the main source of anime was done because TV was not working out for anime. Channels like cartoon network want less anime and no other channel really wants an anime block of their own. So don't think something like this is a blessing in desguise for anime on TV. Ha if this fails it may be DVD only for anime.

Hell this makes a TV deal less likely. At least if the streams worked and were a success FUNi could use them to show that anime would do good on TV. that if it gets this type of ratings from people streaming it just think of how much better it would do on TV. this hurts a chance of a TV deal more then it helps one.

Joost still has the subbed and dubbed first two episodes, but I figure it won't be too long before they get removed.

As for the iTunes idea, I would actually prefer that it still remain available for free streaming, but that's just me. I'm not into the whole download-to-own thing.
