Legal One Piece Streaming Canceled Indefinitely due to leak (update: uncancelled)

You could still choose not to take it any further. I'm sure someone will tell me taking it further is the cold, harsh, tooth and claw reality of life, but this is the same life where folks have the comfort and free time to make things like lolcats. So no dice.

you're right, but Funi shouldn't be let off the hook completely here either. Its a lot of people to blame for this, not just the idiot that found the URL.

Last might Lance Hieskell also reported on the FUNImation blog about the simulcast coming up, and now that entry has been taken down. With this and episodes 1-4 not working on their site, at least we know theyre ding something to take action.

Good, I'm glad we can agree that it's not an either/or choice for blame. There's of course a difference in that the "fans" that didn't act have moral responsibility on their hanRAB, but there's certainly fault to go around when it comes to this incident. I've yet to see anyone dispute that Funi's security was very bad in comparison to a site like Hulu.

It is great news for One Piece. I was surprised to hear how fast they would be uploading the subs for the episodes that air in Japan. Now that's fast. That's a good way to promote the series and hopefully reduce some of the fansubs for the series. I'll still be waiting for the DVRAB, but it's still great news.

Yeah, hopefully this doesn't have any crappy repercussions.

As for Viz, right now it seems they're going bi-monthly with the manga volumes instead of dumping a bunch of volumes at once. Vol. 23 has now been dated for Deceraber.

Still sounRAB like Toei is peeved and ready to pull One Piece from the US.

I'd take a delayed stream (a few days or such) to avoid this, but it really sounRAB like Toei wants to pull the show altogether.

Once again, thank you fansubbers. WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

Instinctive complaining...yeah, that sounRAB about right. Meh. Can't say I'm too surprised on the CR bit, it doesn't strike me as the sort of place that has any good moderation to speak of. Not yet, anyway. I can't begin to guess about legal stream viewers vs the rest, but FMA Brotherhood was certainly getting a lot of attention.

Yeah, but there are people who are able to read new chapters in Japanese and then post about it online someplace, and word gets around on the internet from there.

There is no One person to throw the blame on, to be perfectly honest

FUNi had too Lax security
Whoever discovered that you could change the URL and started spreading the file
HorribleSubs released a torrent of the file and got it REALLY widespread
ANN made a news post on the subject, making it impossible to quell the spread of information and panic
A lot of Fans knew about the URL situation and failed to tell FUNi (If someone DID tell FUNi, this was their fault for not listening though)

No one person or company really is to blame here.

Quexinos asked someone from FUNi about this and according to her contact, One Piece should be safe as far as real life media (DVD, BLU-Ray, etc) goes. Here was the response she posted on Fun Piece.

sad thing is I know how they did it...(make me feel worse) but to bocth it up buy posting it everywhere this guy is not a fan

now I think this show is cursed outside of japan

This is a bit overreacting. Not buying anymore DVRAB from FUNi just because they made a mistake and some hacker got in and leaked the episode? FUNi isn't perfect and making mistakes isn't out of the ordinary. FUNi has been trying really hard JUST to do this simulcast in the first place. They want to please One Piece fans in North America as much as they can. This whole simulcast was an attempt by FUNi to help FIGHT against fansubbers. One hour after the episode airs! Is that really too much for a fan to wait? FMA: Brotherhood's subs aren't even released untill like 4 days later. If we no longer get the simulcast in the future period, or worst case scenario any more One Piece in the US completely, blame Toei. It's Toei that decides whether we get access to One Piece and their other shows in the end. Anyway, if FUNi and Toei can talk things over, hopefully the simulcast will go on ahead with a better and more secure server. We just need to wait to hear more from FUNi on the matter.

Stop talking about the fansub groups anyway - it's against forum rules. Atleast hold out until a confirmed culprit can be found and is preferably in the process of being held accountable.

@Master Moron:

I can't speak for anybody else, but the reason I decided to follow this is because since there are over 400 episodes, it would simply take too long to wait for the other episodes and catch up. That's why I read the summaries on Wikipedia: so I could be up to when date when the simulcast starts...er, started.

For these reasons, I completely disagree with your claim that FUNi is only targeting the people who watched illegal fansubs (especially since they also started from both the beginning of the "Saobady [sp?] Archipelago" arc, as well as from episode one).
