Legal One Piece Streaming Canceled Indefinitely due to leak (update: uncancelled)

It's a separate issue anyway, isn't it? What's being put on DVD in the US are library shows- as opposed to the world premiere exclusivity of new episodes in Japan.

I really hope that this incident didn't cause the whole simulcast deal to get axed, because it would be a big shame to have such a great thing ruined by one person.

The victim here is Fuji TV and Toei animation, not Funi.

Well, to be specific, Fuji's right of first broadcast was broken, Funi's violated its clause with Toei to prevent leaks of materials before airtime.

It wasn't Funi's property that was stolen, it was Toei's and FujiTVs...

Say I let a friend use my car. I tell the friend: "Hey, don't forget to lock the car if you leave it outside of your garage overnight". The friend of course, totally forgets to lock the car, the car is stolen. Who's at fault here? It's the same situation. I could go and sue the friend for negligence...

Very true, but second doesn't mean not at all. Some people seem to think this means no One Piece ever. With the global economy the way it is, coupled with the shrinking Japanese anime market(the low birth rate is finally catching up with them), thinking it won't become available here in NA is just way too doom and gloom.

Toei is ticked right now, and with good reason. And even though they did overreact, Cooler heaRAB SHOULD prevail. So One Piece fans, as well as fans of other Toei properties need to take a step back, take a deep breathe, exhale and watch some other anime while this blows over. This may just be a guess on my part, but I see no reason for this to become a drawn out episode(no pun intended),

At this moment Mack is laughing at us saying that he was right. Saying that he knew something bad like this would happen top ruin it all. That now one Piece is doomed in America for good. Thing is this time he might be right.

It's sad that with one action, this leak all of FUNi's hard work could be ruined. I really hope it's not.

There's damage control going on across timezones and languages, to be sure- as well as streams having been pulled. But no confirmation of cancellations (Funi's twitter mentions FMA will be back up once security is reinforced) or changes in the release date of Season 2 Voyage 1.

While I understand and respect your feelings, I don't see how anything of what that announcement on FUNimation's Twitter account actually proves that Toei is ready to take One Piece away from FUNimation. In fact, it sounRAB more like they're working more on their website's security and I believe that it did mention that once that was updated, they would put back the FMA:B episodes.

I don't want to sound mean or disrespectful, but I don't see anything that has been mentioned in the official statements that actually support the worst case theory of Toei taking away One Piece from FUNimation. I know that Toei does not have the best history for making certain decisions with their shows, but I would wait until there is actual proof before jumping to conclusions.

But why would VIZ go crazy releasing OP like that? Isn't the manga a fairly lukewarm-selling title in America? If so, having a "One Piece Nation" similar to Naruto would lose the company an insane amount of money.

Fansubbers really are a lot of the blame. You have people who automatically think all dubs suck and want to stick with their fansubs. As if that's the only way anime can be enjoyed. No one is really sure if that is the kind of person that leaked this, but it's all possible.

I do agree with the guys earlier though, if this helps push a TV deal more than at least something good came out.

Okay now that I've calmed down I can speak in a coherent matter without raging on anything.

First off, I just want to say that the amount of people hating on FUNi at other sites is just ridiculous. That's all.

Now my main point, is that while this is a pretty bad thing for FUNi and people who were waiting to see the new One Piece as soon as legally possible (and FMA:B now too) which includes me, someone at ANN noted that it may be a good thing that this is happening now instead of at a time that there's like 5 or more new series on there and then all of them get ripped and torrented. I mean, this is bad but something like that could be a fiasco. It's important to look at this in the long run as well.

Also, the person who did this really has no excuse but I just think that it is very important that FUNi improve their security a little better so that it doesn't happen again as I have heard that the ability to do this on the site have been that way for a while and that's really not good. I hope that this gets fixed and has absolutely no possible way of happening in the future.

Also, I saw that Phantom episode 9 was getting an "Error" message which was straight-up about to throw me off the edge because there was only one episode left but apparently it's been showing that for a while so I'm assuming it's to be fixed as well.

My advice is we wait a week (6 more days now) or so and if nothing comes back (especially Phantom) then we get more than a little worried. I hope that the videos are gone only for security improving reasons and nothing else.

BTW, here's an amusing "panic level" chart from a poster on ANN
Apparently level 3 is where the British are (AHH don't hurt me HC! Someone on ANN said it!)

And the piracy cost FUNimation money. I'm also not about to let the perpetrator off of the hook because the video happened to be vulnerable, which some people on the internet sadly but unsurprisingly do.

Oh, and I believe sales are good for both FUNimation and Toei, so by boycotting over this he'd be hurting them too.
