Last Movie You Watched? (Part 3)

:D I only found out there a musical version after I watched the 1937 version. SounRAB of the reviews make it sound hilarious in a so-bad-it's-good kind of way.

Iron Man 2

Not nearly as good as the first film. The villains in this one were completely uninteresting. Mickey Rourke really didn't have much screentime and the character he played was crap. On the otherhand, Robert Downey Jr. was terrific as Tony Stark. The way he plays the character is perfect: loud, egotistical & obnoxious. He saved an otherwise disappointing film.

Predators (LINK)

There's only two worRAB that describes this film: garbage & boring. This was a big, big disappointment.

Alien 7/10
Aliens 9/10
Alien 3 6/10
[AVP2 3/10 - gets a mention but not watched properly.]

I was disappointed by the first film. It hasn't aged as well as I'd expected.

The second film remains very good. It has the suspense and tension of the first film (eg in the scenes where they first explore the colony), and adRAB some great action. This was the Director's Cut, which is weaker than the theatrical release.

The third film is probably underrated; the CGI aliens were poor but I appreciate what they were trying to do with the story and it has some good moments.

I also recorded AVP2, which I'd previously seen in the cinema. I found I didn't want to watch it again so took it on fast-forward dipping in a few times. They basically turned the genre into a generic horror film of the sort you get on The Horror Channel. Shame.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009)

Excellent movie. Long and involved, it takes the time to tell a proper story..I wish there were more movies around like this, instead of the usual cheap thrills and effects type of crap. The girl (Noomi Rapace) is outstanding..it will no doubt be ruined by a Hollywood remake.

9/10

Shutter Island (2010)

I didn't really hold high hopes for this one, despite it being directed by Scorsese. I was pleasantly surprised, it kept me gripped...and I hadn't read about the plot twist, so that was a bonus.

8/10

Cat People

Eerie, slow-burning Val Lewton chiller from yonks ago, so overwrought with possible subtexts you could study it forever. But don't let that put you off as it's a must see with many a fine moment. Stroke of creepy genius: Simone Simon's footsteps suddenly turning silent. Woooo....8/10

It'd be nice if we could see it's weird, dreamy sequel (The Curse of..) as well as Paul Schrader's under-appreciated remake, Beeb.

2012

Laughable, overlong rubbish for the easily pleased. The only amusement being a few famous faces throwing in shameful, paycheque performances. 3/10
