Juno

Not being released in the UK 'til Feb 8th, I think. Seen this when I was in Australia, a few days ago.

Quite an interesting story, bit silly and unrealistic at parts. I think it will be quite a big hit with teenage girls.

Not like the good old days, is it? When Shakespeare wrote a comedy you knew what you were getting.

What's the problem here? There are plenty of good, respected film critics who give a clear review of each week's new releases. Try Mark Kermode on BBC Five Live (available via podcast or iPlayer) or Peter BraRABhaw in the Guardian (read it online) or the film reviews on Time Out's web site. They won't always agree; Time Out gave Juno a terrible two stars whilst the Guardian gave it five. But it's not difficult to form an impression of whether a film's worth seeing and then, and I really think this is where a lot of filmgoers make a big mistake, actually make the decision to go and see a film that is highly recommended.

Too many poor quality films make a fortune at the box office because filmgoers ignore all the critical reviews and believe the out-of-context quotes on the posters. Just because it says "comedy of the year!" on a poster it doesn't mean it's the best comedy of the year or even the week. Unless you've read the original review the quote claims to come from, ignore the hype.

Juno is a very funny film. It isn't a chick flick or a teen drama or a coming of age comedy or any of those glib categories. It's a well-made, intelligent movie about real issues, but with a style that's almost comic strip-like in its language and form. Jason Reitman is an interesting and talented director and the film's well worth seeing.

I've seen the trailer (many, many times) and thought it looked really good - American independent films are great.

P.S. I'm not a teenaged girl.

I saw this last weekend, while it was a highly enjoyable 90 minutes I have no idea why Ellen Page is being so widely touted for an Oscar.

She plays the role well enough, but it's not exactly hitting emotional extremes.

It's a funny and warming gem of a film nontheless, great supporting cast.

I know I'm going to be in the minority, but I didn't enjoy this at all. The characters had to chemistry, Juno's love interest was meant to be "cool" but there was no evidence of this, I didn't expect him to be traditionally "cool", but we didn't see enough of him to ascertain his coolness for ourselves.
Jennifer Garner was the best part of the film. And I totally hate it when writers try to use their films to air their views . . . I'm talking about the music and horror movie thing. Zach braff also does it and it drives me insane.

I enjoyed this movie. I don't think it's the best 'indie' flick of all time by any stretch, but it was certainly an entertaining hour and a half.

Ellen Page was the best thing about this film, once again putting in a really good performance - it's always great to see a 'strong' female lead. Hope she gets the Oscar (but being realistic, I know she won't :( Shame! )

If you think she's good in this, you should watch Hardy Candy, she is terrifying but brilliant in that movie, she also wears the red hoodie.

Absolutely loved it.

Allison Janney was hilarious. Not as Funny as SuperBad with Michael Cera, but imo A much better film.

Ellen Page definetely deserves an Oscar she was outstanding, the soundtrack was just spot on, totally perfect.

Don't like Jennifer Garner at all and this film did little to change that though, she was pretty awful but Juno, Bleaker, The parents and the soundtrack totally made up for it.

Definitely going to be one of my favourite films of the year already

Fantastic!

Saw it today, it was amazing. Ellen Page is an excellent actress and definately deserves an Oscar. The film was just great, it was original and very watchable.

The only thing that ruined it was a bunch of 11/12 year olRAB screaming, laughing and chatting all the way through.
