Juno

The last time I saw Ellen Page was as the wordy, calculating provocateur in Hard Candy, well acted for her age but let down by the 'public service pretensiousness' of the script. I was expecting much the same in Juno, but happily this was not the case. Sometimes the writing was too clever for its own good, but overall, Page and her screen family put in a good if underwhelming performance.
If Juno showed any other emotion other than glib honesty, I would have been more impressed, but a really watchable movie nevertheless.

Yes - I guess that assumes that the accompanying adult has the maturity to understand all of that, and has taken the trouble to find out what the film's about.

I am generally uncomfortable with a relaxation in certification which was intended to be about allowing children to see films with a certain level of "cartoon" violence, including films like Juno, It's a Boy/Girl thing or Mean Girls that contain fairly explicit "teen" sex references.

I would much prefer a return to the old days of U-A-AA-X (life was so much simpler then)...

I went to see this last night and thought it was fab. Ellen Page really is a fantastic actress. The film reminded me of Napolean Dynamite which is also fab!

Saw this at weekend with my GF, both thought it was very good (and we're a lot older than a teenager!). Ellen Page is really something special, a real 'star' in the making.

for me Juno didn't live up to the hype - The main character was unconvincing in her actions and emotions and I was totally unsympathetic to her as a result. Quite frankly it would be an absolutely bizarre choice for a best actress award.....

I completely agree.

I like Ellen Page, but I think all the praise she is getting recently is a bit overboard. People should'nt forget that she isnt this young teenager that she portrays in Juno and in Hard Candy. She's actually 21 years old and has been on TV since she was 10. She has'nt just sprung out of nowhere.

I watched it today on the internet, it was ok but i didn't think it was anything special. I thought the girl who played Juno was a good actress though.

Just watched this movie today - enjoyed it very much

I have to say i liked Mark/Juno's little frienRABhip/relationship they developed

It was an average film at best.Grossly overrated and over hyped.

The first 30 minutes were tedious and littered with annoying slang .
The whole movie had an overwhelmingly desperate and contrived feel .

The script was predictable ,unwitty, phony and unoriginal and while it improved in the second half of the film it could not save the first half which was almost as bad as the monstrosity that was Napoleon Dynamite.
I felt like giving up on the film after 30 minutes but I persevered.

Is this film supposed to be a comedy ?
'Hilariously Funny','Comedy of the Year' are quotes I've seen attributed to this film.
This film was not funny, not a bit.
It worked on the level as an offbeat drama with a bit of charm but as a comedy it failed abysmally.
I've seen some good black comedies in the last year, Little Miss Sunshine,You Kill Me,The Squid and the Whale and Thank you for Smoking that were far far superior to Juno.
What is wrong with Hollywood ?
Are good comedies being made anymore or do we just get mundane offbeat films like Knocked Up and Juno masquerading as comedies ?

The Oscars have once again show their irrelevance by nominating whomever the Hollywood PR machine tells them to.
This film was written by a former stripper and its a first time script,it shows.
I give it a generous 4/10.

Just watched this, and thought it was hilarious! I absolutely love the character Juno, and it was such good acting also.
Reminded me a bit of Knocked Up for some reason, only i preferred this somewhat.

best bit which had me in tears was -

'Daddy, i either just peed my pants... or..... THUNDERCATS ARE GOOOO!!!' lmao

One word i would not associate with this film is Hollywood........this film has nothing to with Hollywood in anyway whatsoever. Its a small independant movie from Canada.

Just saw it last night and really enjoyed it! Ellen Page was fab, as is the always great Allison Janney. I also enjoyed Jennifer Garner too; I thought she did a very understated but believable performance. Especially the scene where she can't feel the baby kick; her expressions and everything were great IMO.

How backward, asinine guff like 'Knocked up' be mentioned in the same breathe as something as witty and intelligent (albeit rather twee) as Juno is beyond me.
