Juno

for me Juno didn't live up to the hype - The main character was unconvincing in her actions and emotions and I was totally unsympathetic to her as a result. Quite frankly it would be an absolutely bizarre choice for a best actress award.....

and the soundtrack had me totally bewildered - I mean, how many low-fi acousic songs with dry vocals do you really need in a movie?

i have seen it and i like it. good film and Ellen Page was great. The storyline so sweet and i didn't know how it would end which is always a plus.

I was very disappointed by Juno.

I was really looking forward to it, but I found it far too self-consciously cool and clever. The music irritated me, and the lo-fi visual style was contrived. The dialogue was fine in parts, but stilted and cringeworthy in others. I felt that it lacked an honesty that I've seen in other films of this genre.

Having said that, I found it enjoyable enough. I didn't laugh once, but I smiled quite a few times. I just think that it's an overrated film and encapsulates much of what annoys me about pop culture in this decade.

i know its been ages since juno was released but i just watched it last night, what an amazing film, i laughed and cried deffo one of the best films i've seen for a while!

I finally went to see this over the weekend.
I am female in my 30s and was thinking it might be a teenage flick. I was really thinking I would not like it. I had read reveiws saying the dialogue was grating etc, so I was quite reserved going in.
But I was so pleasantly surprised. I would say the trailer does it no justice as it gives the impression of quite a teenagey shallow film.
I was actually very moved by it. Juno herself was such a lovely character, a little different and messed up and trying to make sense of the World. The supporting cast were great, the soundtrack was good though not as amazing as it's hyped up to be IMO.
I guess overall I was moved alot more that I expected to be. There were a couple of really poignant moments, mostly between Juno & her Dad and I think it tackled teenage pregnancy really well.
I don't think it's a comedy though, maybe a black comedy but it's actually overall quite heartfelt.

Wasn't he just supposed to be cool in Juno's eyes? I don't think they ever implied he was the coolest guy in school or anything. In fact the way Juno's Dad and best friend talked about him said the opposite to me.

Anyway, I loved the movie. It was easily the best film I've seen in a long time. Very funny, but also very moving in parts. And as a huge TV fan it basically had my dream cast - they were all fantastic in it.

I only got round to watching it this week as well.. and I agree with the two quotes above. I thought it was enjoyable enough, but was no way deserving of all the hype it got. The soundtrack annoyed the heck out of me, and Juno annoyed me. I loved Michael Cera and Jennifer Garner in it though.

So was "Run Fatboy Run", and that was the cinematic equivalent of being stabbed in the kidneys for 90 minutes. Someone, somewhere will say something like that to stick on a poster - so it's just a case of separating what for chaff. And to my mind Juno was most definitly a shred of wheat in a sea of idiotic, puerile chaff.

I liked the film, but absolutely hated the character of Juno (if both things are possible.) I wanted to smack her. She was rude (I wanted to slap her), and her pretentious dilaogue didn't click with me.

Saw this this afternoon, was excellent, very funny and very touching in just the right measures. Soundtrack was a little overbearing at times, and I'm a Moldy Peaches fan!

I really, really connected with this, and I'm not a teenage girl. What a movie. All the praise is probably underselling it. Going to go see it again at the weekend, but I suspect it might become my favourite ever movie.

Enjoyed this & its pro life message. Can see how it won the
Oscar for the best written screenplay & sorry that Ellen Page didn't win the best Actress. She was very good.

Well I haven't seen it yet, but going by the mixed reviews, I'm not sure what to expect.

I.e. Intelligently funny or laugh out loud ridiculously funny?

Or is it more of a drama with some kind of moral message....and a bit of humour added to give it the 'comedy' category?

I like both of the above types of comedy....but also for them to be clearly stated as to which box they are in. I.e more comedy than drama or vice versa.

I'm sick of seeing ridiculous comments like 'the comedy of the year' when I expected something like 'Dumb and Dumber' as opposed to 'Terms of Endearment' (riddled with humour) but also a serious and tragic drama.

Just going by the confusion here and many other boarRAB, It just seems that some of the 'celeb' critics get carried away and don't know how to define comedy these days.
