Job listings say the unemployed need not apply

I thought I was on my way to LAWL School. But my Mom got sick, got a divorce and moved in with me. I had to take a job and take care of her for 3 years. And never went.

Not everything in life is cut and dry like OTers think.

He's already working on the side

I'm working on the side too

We still consider ourselves unemployed, not a career job = unemployed man

I busted my ass to get this degree, I did everything, I'm trying my hardest to get a job. I'm not going to be very happy delivering all the time

Well I think you are wrong. Someone can hire me on any basis, and I can refuse work on any basis. What if I don't like my employer because of some personal attribute that has nothing to do with their work productivity? Are you saying I can't quit? How is that any different than an employer having arbitrary standarRAB for deciding who to hire?

So if an employer wants to hire you, and you don't like their haircut but otherwise the job offer is great, you are telling me that you should be required, by law to work for them? How is it any different for the employer? If they don't like your haircut but are otherwise qualified, you are saying, they should be required by law to hire you?

Maybe these people should have started looking for jobs while they were riding unemployment for two years. Instead they sit and collect and happily get paid to do nothing, then when the money runs out their frantic job search begins and they can't find anything.

I remeraber a couple months back seeing these morons in the news trying to push for an extension on the 99 week unemployment.

Right. Businesses can negotiate prices for their supplies, equipment and services they sell. Thats fine and part of business but if a group of workers gets together and negotiates a price for the service they provide, it becomes legalized extortion.

oh btw, union workers make up approximately 12% of our workforce. Not a whole lot of extortion going on there. The vast majority of workers and employers are not affected by unions. Businesses leave because they get labor and production many times cheaper in the 3rd world. Even if we removed minimum wage, unions and labor end environmental laws tomorrow, we could still not compete with places like Malaysia.

had an ok job but was being underpaid, got a good raise but not enough

boss left to work in new company

he called up a company and told them how amazing i am last tuesday

i interviewed and was offered a job with a substantial raise on friday and am taking it

it's all about who you know. they get you in the door past the 500 other applicants and then once you have an audience you can easily sell yourself if you're good

So fine if the state makes it illegal.

When they send in the resume and you don't see anything listed for current employment, throw those in the trash.

You've given nothing but opinion and conjecture throughout this thread. I've posted links to articles stating the situation and the problems associated with the practices discussed. You're an idiot troll, you have NOTHING to say on it that is of any factual relevance. Nobody here who has any real grasp of the topic or experience is going to agree with seriously agree with you, in fact if there is anything given to you at all it's to continue to feed the troll. You're an idiot, and a pissed off little canadian with a jealousy complex that knows his course of studies have lead him down the road with limited employment opportunity in your preferred field. If you are lucky somebody will give you a chance to die of a heart attack in a cubical. Now, unlike you I have a job to do. My 2:30 server migration requires my time so this discussion is over. Feel free to post all the you want, but it won't cover for your insecurity and lack of applicable knowledge.
