Job listings say the unemployed need not apply

Satellite is a fucking baby.

You live in Chicago. I was there last weekend. There was a Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts/Jaraba Juice every ten feet. Get a fucking coffee job while you continue your hunt. There is no reason that an able-bodied adult should be down to $3 and a loaf of bread to live on.

Mr. Smiley's Manager: I don't think you'd fit in here.

Lester Burnham: I have fast food experience.

Mr. Smiley's Manager: Yeah, like twenty years ago!

Lester Burnham: Well, I'm sure there have been amazing technological advances in the industry, but surely you must have some sort of training program. It seems unfair to presume I won't be able to learn.

Well if that is true, then employers who use credit scores will make bad hiring decisions, but it is still their choice. It is not a "violation of my privacy" for someone to ask me a question, it would only be a violation of privacy if the government required, by law, that you give certain information to an employer. If it is not required by law, it is voluntary, if it is voluntary they aren't violating anything.

They are being picky because you have too many people with high reservation wages (people who are only willing to work for a higher wage than the market is providing). Supply and demand in the labor market cannot equilibrate, so we have excess labor supply (excess unemployment). People need to lower their wage expectations and the labor market will become more fluid. The exact same thing is going on in the housing market ("I bought my 2bd condo in L.A. for $500,000, the market price is $200,000, but that is "too low" so I will list at $300-400K." Result = a bunch of overpriced real estate sitting on the market)

the way I look at it is to give a good person a chance for a month, if they are hard working I'll keep them on, if not they can go fuck themselves. I would make it known too that if they produce they will be kept on, i'd reward a hard working person before someone with experience.

How does the amount of time it takes to change your credit score make it less arbitrary?

Ok, let's change it to something else:

"So if an employer wants to hire you, and you don't like the shape of their nose but otherwise the job offer is great, you are telling me that you should be required, by law to work for them? How is it any different for the employer? If they don't like the shape of your nose but are otherwise qualified, you are saying, they should be required by law to hire you?"

Meh, I didn't pick a good major (business) and knew I would have problems. I just didn't want to switch and prolong graduation. I was to a point where I was tired of the school routine and needed change. I also graduated in deceraber of 08 which was followed by 2009, a shit year to get a job

the shit and hoops I have jumped through trying to find a part time motel front desk clerk/night auditor (or any other entry level job) for a year and a half now is INSANE! One wanted a letter of reference from the lady who fired me for having to take care of my mothers estate and attend my father's wedding, and an updated letter of reference from a lady who fired me 10 years ago, and was later found that she fired me because of lies told to her by her son so he could have my job. She doesn't even work there anymore because she retired, and what other kind of boss is going to give you a glowing letter of recommendation after firing you?. I almost had a job at a car wash (previously ran my own detail shop, ran a detail shop at a multiple line GM dealership, and worked at a frienRAB car wash ) and I would have had that job but "oh you were let go from your last job." And this was for a 20-26 hour a week job that paid $7.50/hr. Interviews go from good to "oh" because I've been let go from 2 jobs in the last 16 years, and both times were for BS reasons, and I used to work for 2 car dealers, and 1 phone company who have now closed. I'm really starting to think about lying my ass off on my resume and just say that I kept on running my own detail shop for the last 2 1/2 years even though I closed it in 09 and not even mention my last job.

I understand being judged in person on appearance but asking for pics ahead of time in an ad seems ridiculous I always flag the restaurant jobs that ask for pics on CL

i dunno if it's about being good so much as being resourceful. i wasn't out of work for a single day, but only because i had started planning for the eventuality (I saw the writing on the wall, i knew i would need a part-time to save money and to have some income when the company i was at went belly up).

I was pessimistic though, it took a 18 months longer than i had thought.

I took a pay cut at my current position too, after being laid off. Luckily when i was laid off, i just started working full time at my part time job, which was a HUGE paycut.

There is a difference between a right and a law. That is the distinction you fail to make. Something doesn't become a right because it's stated in the Bill of Rights, nor does something cease to be a right because it's omitted from the document. Government, the institution that is supposed to protect our rights, is violating the rights of employers for the purpose of guaranteeing something that is NOT a right (employment).
