Indiana Jones IV

Totally agree there. AI is a fantastic movie, much misunderstood. I've had arguments with mates at work who just say it's another Spielberg sentimental load of crap. While I know what they're getting at, I think AI deserves a better assessment than that.

It's been kinda fun watching the internet backlash about the new Indiana Jones film. I do take some of the criticisms, but I still feel it's a fun addition to the series. It was never going to be Raiders, but it's still got a lot to give. Do you think it's possible that a lot of fans have failed to realise that in between the old films and the new one (19 years after all), they might have actually matured and can see all the holes in these types of films that they never saw before?

What I'm getting at, is that when I was a kid, these movies had a tremendous impact on me. It didn't matter that some of the effects were a bit ropy, or the whole thing was very cheesy really. You didn't see that and it was fun and amazing. You wanted to be Indiana Jones (I still do!). Now you're older, and all the cheesiness is clear to see. Suddenly you're looking at the older films through rose tinted glasses, and the new one can never benefit from that. For whatever reason, I've been able to switch off my inner cynic with these films and really enjoy it for the ride pure and simple.

The Star Wars prequels have been hammered in much the same way, and it's a shame because they're tremendous fun really. I mean, those lightsabre duels...come on!

Considering we've already seen him survive jumping out of a plane over a mountain range by virtue of sitting in a rubber dingy, I'm not sure why the infamous fridge is a leap of logic.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a tremendous film full stop.

Now Temple of Doom on the other hand neeRAB to be viewed through rose tinted glasses with cataracts. ;)

Im just watching the Man Utd Barcelona game on ITV and in the ad break at half time they showed the Indy 4 trailer which was great to see on TV. It reminRAB me we are now less than a month untill Indy 4 is released in the cinema!

Nancy 1975 says much of my feelings about the latest Indy film
I did feel it was juvenile script wise, the 12a rating is about right for the age to appreciate it best perhaps:D
The initial Area 51 sequence was ludicrous and Indy's escape via a fridge from an Atom bomb even more ludicrous.
The two best ideas from the plot were not used to best advantage at all. If the 1950s had occupied the first half to portray that eras teen culture the fashions the music (use some look-a-like performers for Elvis - Little Richard - Bill Hayley:)) to add real feelings of nostalgia to attract the grand daRAB who were teenagers at that time, it was a tremendous time, to accompany the teenagers (grand kiRAB) of today for a double success whammy. Instead we got two recorRAB or parts of and one coffee bar scene to suggest a period any time to around 1980.

The 'Ruskie' angle is old hat.

I could not detect any good humour other than the 'Tarzan monkeys' - a very good gag used in the wrong place in the script to be appreciated and the three water falls was good.

The whole finally was a mess for me with no real explanation of how this skull could be removed in the first place or any logic to the end at all.
Better to have some 'bonkers' branch of the CIA who are trying to locate this Alien base to acquire the remaining 12 skulls to allow Indy the (brought from retirement) task of 'saving the planet'. More believable that Ruskies who were allowed to run riot across America:confused:

I didnt like the ending...

However the one thing about all the INDY films is that they have some basis on myth and legend as well as historical fact

The ending corresponRAB with what the Mayan people believed and like it or not its the way they were!

However, good film glad i went the flicks to see it

I watched IJ yesterday and thought it was entertaining but completely ridiculous. I watch things like Lost and Heroes, so believe me I know how to suspend my disbeliefs, but I think the whole...
alien and flying saucer
...plot was completely against the grain of the Indiana Jones 'theme' and just sat uncomfortably with me.

Like I say, it was entertaining enough, but it was just too OTT for me.

I think judging by the picture, they will pull it off, it has been said indy is in his fifties in the film and there will be plenty of humour referencing his age, looking forward to it, its been on-off discussed/mooted/developed for at least 12 years now. considering how many false starts it has had, I still can't quite believe it is being made at last

Oh absolutely. Raiders will never age, and is really one of the greatest adventure films ever made. But to me, anyone who says Temple of Doom is way better than Crystal Skulls cannot have watched ToD for quite some time! When I was a kid I knew Temple was extremely cheesy and nowhere near as good as Raiders. But I still loved it. Ditto Last Crusade.

To me the new Indy easily deserves to be up there with the other two sequels. The backlash simply beggars belief. I'm sure over time it'll all settle down, but nevertheless it's been far too quick to judge it imho.

Its been a year of anticipation after almost 27 years since our first adventure together were back for one more ride and I loved every minute of it, Is the film as good as it seemed watching it today or was it a euphoria brought on by a mixture of nostalgia and happy childhood memories.

I did a quick search and was surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet: There's a strong rumor going around that the next Indiana Jones movie will team Indy up with his son & possibly his father as well. The script is still secret as far as I know, so there's no way to confirm anything.

I don't mind having Sean Connery return as Indy's father (He was great in "Last Crusade") but I'm not sure if I like the idea of Indy having a teen-age (or early 20-ish?) son join him on his final adventure.

Oh, and the son is supposedly being played by "Even Stevens" actor Shia LaBeouf .

Again it's all rumors but it's been reported by newspapers and websites so there may be some truth to it. We'll see.
