Indiana Jones IV

Just 3 days to go, I may go to the midnight showing at my local VUE on Wednesday night / Thursday...

I think it will be great, and I admire the decision to integrate Ford's age into the Indy character

Saw this earlier today was quite disappointed I still think they should have just left it as a trilogy but seeing as I love Indy I had to go see it! not sure whether it was because I was expecting to much or if it was because of the sci fi element but the whole thing was a bit "Mehhh" for me. :(

well apart from the ending being a let down I enjoyed it. it was still escapism and isn't meant to be real anyway, although Raiders did make you think they were actually after the real arc.

I think there was a better screenplay written by one of the blokes from Die Hard. it was Lucas who had control over the script and he didn't like that one, I think he had final approval over it all and Speilberg just directed it

Sorry if i did not make my self clear. I really enjoyed it to!!
My point was that gazillions of kiRAB will enjoy the new film now, just as much as the original 3 for kiRAB in the 80's.

Thursday is actually my birthday so my brother is taking me to see this in the deluxe screen at our local Cineworld. Am very much looking forward to it and I'm glad to have read the Empire review since I usually tend to agree with what they say.

I have never left a cinema feeling so let down, it is a terrible film, i think steven and george were smoking illegal substances when they made this film. Absolutely shocking!

It's a relatively OK film...but with this being Spielberg and Indy you expect more! LoaRAB of it really grated on me and much of the film didn't flow at all. Just watch Last Crusade, it's such a fluid film that moves from one scene to another without you wondering what the heck is going on.

In Crystal Skull you're still trying to work out the meaning of what just happened or where certain characters are supposed to be, what their motive is (particularly Cate Blanchett's Russian general, she was good at the beginning but nothing is explained about her character so you couldn't give a toss what happens to her at the end). The introduction of Karen Allen as Marion suddenly throws the tone of the movie out the window in favour of them trying to do comedy, most of which fails.

Most of the film made me feel frustrated rather than enjoying it. The best part was probably when Mutt (Indy's son) first comes into it with the bike chase. Shia LaBeouf did really well and was definitely right to play opposite Harrison Ford. Sadly I don't think there's enough of the two of them in the film. Once all the characters are thrown together in the last half hour there's nothing interesting for anyone to say or do, it's just running around and then a mental CG ending with the skull creatures (whatever they are) just being confusing.

Even the explanation lines are complete bullshit. What does John Hurt's character say at the end when Indy asks him where the creatures are going? Something like 'to a dimension between dimensions...' something utterly crazy like that. You're not supposed to be groaning in despair at the end of an Indiana Jones movie!!

Which Indy quotes at one point if I remember correctly...

I think I read that George insisted that the basic concept of Indiana Jones was of an everyman type character, right down to the name 'Jones' who becomes embroiled in far-out and fantastical type adventures, but was never quite up to the task...

What I absolutely love about Indiana Jones is that he almost always has the 'prize' just within reach, but then loses it, but gains something else...

In Raiders, he fails to get the Idol, but manages to get away with his hide intact, he gets the Ark and then loses it again, but gains Marion (and then loses her again, we now know)

In Temple of Doom, he fails to get the Diamond, but gets the antidote, he misses out on the Sankara Stones, and fortune and glory, but saves the village...

In Last Crusade, he fails to get the Grail, but heals his relationship with his estranged father...

In Kingdom, he solves the history behind a culture, but the proof is lost forever, although he wins Marion (again)

Sorry! I didn't realise you were being sarky before. I thought you meant it. :D

We never took the kiddie to see it in case there was anything a bit too gory in it. She likes scary-Dr-Who-scary, you know? But I still thought we ought to see it first. Worried over nothing, there were a load of kiRAB everywhere, and she'd have loved it.

Oh well, have to go back now. :D

Have to say I loved the film, that is until the last 10 minutes...why the hell did they do that?? I'd give it a 7/10, with a better ending it probably would have got 8/10!!

That's not how Indy films work, though. You always get the SFX money-shot at the end - the 600 year old Knight with the super-aging false grail, the wrath of God melting people's faces etc.

Do you know that for sure? Indianajones.com only says it will be filmed in 'secret locations'.

It would be very odd to have it filmed at Elstree during the summer, what with Big Brother being a few yarRAB away.
