I know! That was one of my favorite parts of the movie. Adrien doesn't speak for like 30 minutes and you don't feel cheated.

Glad you liked it, sweets, but I doubt I'll ever see that one. On the other hand, I REALLY want to see Something's Got to Give.
 
Shrr - I can understand your disappointment with The Good Girl. Fairly bland.

I saw Bubble Boy with that Jake guy from The Good Girl. It was soooo bad...BUT it was kind of funny in a lame way

Caught Mystic River. Pretty good. I enjoyed Tim Robbins and Marcia Gay Harden. The music was annoying though, and the ending was predictable.
 
Posting to say that I finally saw Monsoon Wedding! Here's what I posted about it on the Hindi Movie thread:

While not strictly a "Hindi Movie," I did see the somewhat racy Monsoon Wedding last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it, if only because the roles of women were semi-empowered (not surprising given the fact that the movie was made by a woman). I definitely recommend it.

Don't be descouraged by the absolutely horrific music of the opening credits - it gets much better (I barely got past them myself - had to fast forward through it).
 
My schedule has been screwy the last few weeks/months (real life sucks sometimes) that up until last Friday, the last movie I watched was Pirates of the Caribbean.

Last Friday, I caught Matchstick Men, which I enjoyed.

It's nice to see Nicolas Cage do something comic... And Sam Rockwell's cool.

I might catch Under the Tuscan Sun next. (It'll be in limited release.)

Oh, here's a major peeve of mine, which shows how pathetic Filipino (mainstream) audiences are. Apparently, being a critically-acclaimed movie nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor (Michael Caine) and directed by Phillip Noyce (who won one of those crix awards) isn't enough to sell a movie. Not only do they change the poster (they added a bunch of airplanes and a CIA logo), they drop all those blurbs about how great the movie is. Even worse... they change the title. So now, we don't get The Quiet American. It's now (shudders) The Spy.

I love Ewan, but personally I think he needs a lot more time and a lot more movies to gain such a high ranking on that list. Sigh.

I wanna watch X2 again, but not when I go out for my movie weekend. I'll probably watch The 25th Hour, because I've heard good things about it, and I adore Edward Norton (not to mention he's a hottie). Plus I thought I'd take advantage of seeing a movie like this in theaters here in the Philippines, which is a rare event. One thing though: Is it depressing?

Profaine Angel - I agree with you. It's part of the fun of discovery to see a film you know little about. That's how I saw Memento, and was totally blown away. Sure, it depressed me, but it was brilliant.

mukooh - I'm interested in seeing if you catch what I did about the second Matrix film, so let me know.

I never cared much for Sean Penn until I saw this film, and he just blew me away.

I rather liked Phone Booth - but I wasn't expecting much so I was pleasantly surprised. It was very entertaining and I'm glad (and agree) that it shouldn't have been longer).

There seems to be nothing good out for watching at the moment. I'm waiting for Intacto, The 25th Hour and Phone Booth to come out in the coming weeks.

Rewatched The Cider House Rules last night - wonderful movie.
 
Is Ghost World the movie with Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi?

I hated Diaboliques with Sharon Stone, but I loved the old one with Paul Meurisse. Is that the one you were talking about, shrrshrr?

I saw The Big One on cable last week. I loved it!
Michael Moore's criticism of capitalism is absolutely fantastic. I mean until the very end I thought he would make the head of Nike change his mind about having the shoes being made in the US. I guess even he couldn't win that battle.
I still haven't seen Bowling for Columbia but it's coming out on DVD very soon, so I'll rent it then. I can't wait.

Sorry Moto Maji you can't find older foreign movies. Can't you order them from the Internet and having them shipped to the Phillipines?
 
I'm back...sort of. Watched a bunch of movies - not many, and nothing I'd write home about (The Good Girl, Princess Mononke, etc.). I mean, they were good, I guess, but not great.

*sigh* Can you tell I'm in a funk? I haven't even watched a Hindi movie lately.

I'll catch up with the thread in the next day or two...
 
I did see Twin Falls Idaho, which I resisted for the longest time, but ended up liking, so I'll probably catch Northfork.

And yeah - It's been forever for Love the Hard Way. Katherine Moennig's in it, so I've been anxious to see it.

And yes! That's it - American Splendour - I'm SO looking forward to this film.

Um...I'm really depressed about my dog having cancer, so I'm distracting myself with movies, I guess...

Don't remind me about Ghost World. I remember ordering a medium fruit shake after renting a bunch of videos, then suddenly remembered "Mediums are for suckers who don't know the real meaning of value."

I haven't seen the others, but I liked Bend it Like Beckham, like most people.

I just watched Brother's Keeper, which fascinated me. Turns out my colleague, who's surprisingly urbane, considering, grew up 20 minutes from there and is well familiar with the story. That just adds to the mystique, for me.

As I've found with many documentaries recently, it's a one sided story - the film makers obviously side with the brothers - and I'm curious to know if this is some sort of trend in documentary storytelling.

It used to be that you could count on a certain amount of objectivity, but that's not the case anymore, and hasn't been for the last 15 years or so...
