Highly rated films you think are bad

Disagree about The Matrix, Jurassic Park, Blade Runner, 2001 and Gladiator.
There are some ground breaking movies there that rightly deserve the high rating. Especially 2001.

I like some of the Coen brothers work. But Barton Fink was terrible, if it wasn't for....
The main character waking up next to a dead body.

... I would have got up and exited the cinema.

I can't stand any Coen Brothers films but they are nearly all considered masterpieces.

A film doesn't have to have no action to make it boring for me, but a couple I just didn't rate are

Casablanca - I get to the end and think "so what?"
Brokeback Mountain - a brave attempt but I just didn't believe the relationship at all.

I agree about the Coens - MOST of their films just leave me cold.

Er... There Will Be Blood is a Paul Thomas Anderson film (him of Magnoila / Boogie Nights / Punch Drunk Love fame), not Coen Brothers. Are you thinking of No Country for Old Men?

Now that place truly is ming-mong land.

Judging by the comments it's solely populated by the educationally sub-normal and/or teenagers. ;)

Oh yeah, Crash it definately over-rated. I think a lot of people like the potential message of the film, but it's so simplistic and insistent in my opinion. I just think a lot of people think they should appreciate the film because of it's subject matter, and don't really focus in on it.

It's an okay film, with some pretty good performances, but I really don't think it deserves all the acclaim it received.

No it goes on the list of sucky films, what I really hated was that there were a few stories going on and none of them led to any spectacular conclusion. It played out to a dull ending, I have no idea how it got 7.6.

I've never seen the attraction of 'Citizen Kane', which was described as a "classic masterpiece".

Not fussed on any Woody Allen films either.

Other than that, I'm easily pleased :D

Crash wasn't terrible, but it wasn't as good as its spiritual cousin Magnolia.

I'll also join in with the Matrix and anything by Tarantino.

:eek: to people saying Gone with the Wind. :p
it's my favourite film of all time - however, I respect your opinions people and if we all liked the same stuff we'd be in a dull dull world indeed! :D
here's my movies that I think are bad despite being highly rated....
The Matrix Trilogy
Brokeback Mountain
The Piano
A Clockwork Orange
The Simpsons Movie (I liked it but it was definitely 12 years too late)
Star Wars episodes I-III (although they werent that highly rated I guess!)
there's so many more but I just cant think at the mo....
