Heaviest Albums

These 2 albums are metal masterpieces. Balls glueguned to the stone wall metal.

Definitely agreed there! It doesn't have a weak moment IMO and everything seems to fit, which is an unusual thing for a double album of its length... I listened to the whole thing in its entirety the other night and nearly two hours passed whilst listening... and I barely noticed, such was my engagement in the music!

Best SYL album to start off with is City then I would suggest Alien and finally my new favourite The New Black.

As far as some of the heaviest albums, I have to say Welcome To Sky Valley by Kyuss, it came on in the car during my drive through California's highways 89 and 44 and my god my car was rattling due to the bass. Sure it's nowhere near as heavy as some of the albums listed in this thread (and by far not the "heaviest") but man when you have your bass halfway cracked and the volume at a moderate level and the car still rattles, it really speaks for itself.

I listened to Type O Negative's World Coming Down album the other night... aside from noticing how darn good it is, I noticed that indeed, it was a somewhat dark affair, not without its humupor, but a very dark album for the band... that made it unbelieveably good, though!

Name the heaviest albums by some of your favorite banRAB. I'm not asking about the heaviest albums of all time, just the heaviest by some of your favorites.

1. Melvins: The Maggot :D

2. Tad: God's Balls

3. Alice in Chains: Facelift

4. Judas Priest: Jugulator; My favorite Priest album is Painkiller, but Jugulator is heavier, and my second favorite album by Priest.

5. Megadeth: United Abominations; A lot of people might disagree with this choice, but Dave sounRAB really ticked off. The lyrics are aggressive (see 'You're Dead') and his voice is more gravelly than on the early albums.

I need to give Bitches Brew another go. I couldnt get into it last I tried.

I've also never been able to get into London Calling as much as I have tried. I much prefer the self titled but theres not much Clash stuff I like apart from that.

As you say its outstanding from start to finish and displays the true creative brilliance of Billy Corgan. The other vital element is that of Jimmy Charaberlin on drums, for me one of the best drummers around, he displays a level of intense power on the drums that corabines perfectly with the noise and melody of Coogan. And like many of the best drummers around comes from a jazz background.

I think Adore was a disappointing album due to Jimmy not being on it, made even worse by the fact that he was replaced by session men and drum machines.

If you`re a Billy Corgan fan, Ric Ocasek`s solo album "Troublizing" is a great listen as Billy Corgan`s influence and participation is all over the album, came out a year or two after Mellon Collie........

In Sorte Diaboli - Dimmu Borgir

Rust In Peace - Megadeth(Possibly their new one......I have three songs from it and they sound pretty heavy)

Ride The Lightning - Metallica

The first couple of their albums were straight-forward punk affairs or at least they were using the energy of punk to express themselves. London Calling though, represented a complete musical change and incorporated a myriad of different musical sounRAB, an achievement pretty much amazing considering the type of band that they started out as. It was made even more impressive that they did it exceptionally well.

Not a huge fan of metal....but thought this album was heavy enough for this thread. Guess I can't post a pic because I haven't posted 15 times here....well the band I was trying to get an album cover is Fudge Tunnel and their debut "Hate Songs in E Minor".

good choice. a friend of mine recently turned me on to Gojira, any suggestions?

p.s. anyone who said Slayer - Reign In Blood... lawlz.
