I haven't tried it. I figured you don't even need to use it as a disk as it's actually really easy to transfer files with PC Studio 3.

Anyone know how I can get rid of those ridiculous random pictures on the HOLD screen. I mean the screen that shows then you lock the keylock.

Also.. Is there a way to get rid of that stupid message on startup? I figured how to set the message to something else, but all i want to is to turn it off.. meh.

Why made the menus to confusing.. I guess I'm too used to SonyEricsson's very easy menus. :P

Hi to all, tried this with my F480 and its all working fine and the camera picture are much better than the old firmware (F480XXHF3) and there a extra icon on the dispaly setting called "Main Menu Style" this can chage your background menu from white to black, black background is much better looking, but if you compare it with my previous phone (SGH-D500) the pictures are much clearer than my F480 5mega pixel even with the new firmware have anyone here noticed that? D500 is only 1.3mega pixel. Theres another thing ive notice about my F480 ive tried putting files like exel, ms word & pdf and i cant seem to browse them or drag them to read the files when zoomed in anyone here tried this function?
I hope samsung will release newer firmware for F480 so that it can achieve the right clarity of its camera, and launch any application & games compatible to it.

hesus! men, if you don't know something for sure don't write,
there are no secret engeenering menus is samsung, and they don't keep the track, it's just enough that providers/carriers release their own firmware so there is no way for samsung to track that,

yes, in some other phones I agree there are flash counters, but never heard of that in samsung

and by writing about leakerd roms you made me laugh my a** off.. cos you can't just c.a.n'.t extract firmware from the phone, there is no such possibility on qualcomm platform,

I know many official/commercial sites that sell the formware, the same what you can often get for free if they wuld be broken would they sell it? would some gsm shops/services installed them? guess no

HI
it is obvious that there is a layer between the flash and the pc (translating from USB and write it in to the flash were you need to write a write command and a segment for evrey word)

I am not trying to rewrite the fw, I am only trying to get the origin one back in

so what you are saying is that i can not read the full flash contents into a file ? (eny file as long is it got all the flash in it)

I am new to the phone fw change , but i did a lot of game Console moding
and if you can write and verify it you can read it.
and if you can read it you can write it back .
is there a verification in the programing tool ?

Yeah they have...it's called the Omnia!

Only kidding!

I love my F480 but for a 5Mpxl camera, I agree it's kinda lame at times.

I've had a few touch phones, most recently the HTC Touch Diamond.....if you think the F480 has issues I urge you to try the Diamond, try only! but DO NOT BUY! it's a truly horrible piece of kit!!!!!!!!! the touch interface is miles behind the F480 - I managed to live with the HTC Diamond for 1 day! Cheap looking c**p.

I've also had both variants of the iPhone (since launch) and in all honesty didn't like them much after the initial 'wow' factor of the interface......they are just too big & heavy for a mobile phone.

The 'Tocco' is perfect in that respect, along with a much better battery life and 'as easy' to use as Apple's offering, sure some of the functions are not as silky smooth as Apple's UI, the MP3 player isn't an iPod (but only an Ipod is!) though I think it's only a matter of time for some welcome improvements, roll on the latest (heavily over-rumored?) firmware, huh.

The downside's of the F480 to me is namely no wi-fi along along with a pretty poor browser - opera mini is better but still not what it could be.........again, I hope in a few months time there'll be some improved firmware/software available........but as it is the F480 is a good phone IMHO....(so long as u change the firmware to get rid of the call drop-outs of course!)

Oh, and to the poster who was wondering what his T-Mobile Web & Walk setting were, do a Google - all these settings are easily configured back into the phone's Browser settings........or flash it back to the already listed T-mobile firmware if u can't.

Sorry for the rant/review

Oh yeah, many thanks to the OP for his firmware tutorial, consice & well written, cheers.

That's exactly what I get, Conway - although, with the new firmware the drop in quality is much smaller. It almost feels like a 5MP camera now, whereas before it was no better than the one on my old Sony-Ericsson W800.

firmware depandable, only way is to check the appliaction you use to acces the web, then on the app > options and check wheteher you have option advanced and in advanced> permitions and there thera are two possibilities

1. you get the message permitions granted = you do nothing
2. you get a list of options to check = voilla!

the list depends on firmware, app permitions are being written in /appdb/kjxsettings.bin file in each app folder

if its not branded FW i guess you'll get option 1

Hi all Just like to say thanks for the info, Flashed my tocco no problems at all just followed the 1st guide..Camera is still blury but speed of menus is better

BTW when you connect your phone and download it took mine 266 secs so the post was correct approc 5 min

Thanks again

What are the chances of bricking a phone when flashing it? I have a F480, but the firmware is of the F488 variety, wouldn't mind changing it over. And seeing what this alternate menu looks like.

First make sure that your games a full touchscreen, if not then u will need the arrows.

This is the method to remove those annoying arrows hehe:

Just edit the MANIFEST file, zipped in the JAR file and add the line:
MIDlet-Touch-Support: True

So you just open the JAR file with winrar, then find MANIFEST, open with notepad and add the line
MIDlet-Touch-Support: True

Save the file, re-ZIP the files and rename back to a JAR file.

This should remove those arrows.

Btw... could u send me that bejeweled jar file that u got ?

cause the bejeweled that i got is not working

some applications/options/widgets might be in branded firmwares only, probably the the only way to have it back is with the previous fw
regards

Hi

Does this mean the USB cable that came with the phone can be used with the multiloader v5.33 to the flashing?

"Hold down the 'Volume down' key (The bottom rocker button on the left side of your phone) and the camera button and press the power on button. Your phone should start up into a wierd screen with downloader v.5.32 or something and some boxes. It's now ready to be flashed."

IVE TRIED THE ABOVE BUT IT DOESNT SEEM TO WORK, MY PHNE JUST STARTS UP AS NORMAL AND THE WIDGET(MENU) SCREEN COMES ON WITH A NO SIM MODE MSG.??
CAN ANYONE HELP?

What about the camera? any improvement? some in here say it has some say it hasnt.

Are you on contract with Orange? arent you worried about voiding the warranty? I was all set to flash it, but then held off after reading in here about it voiding warranty, Im on a 18month contract, only 2 months in as well.

ps Samsung mobiles in UK have a 2 year manufacturer warranty I found out to.

You have to change under Settings -> Network Settings -> Connections -> Then edit the profile you use in the browser
