hi, the difference is in one bit, before the picture data there is one bit, which defines debug level

low = debug level low,

mid = debug level medium,

it pre sets this level withiut the need to accesing admin menu,

what is it for? well, for normal user it is better to have it low it menas when there are some errors in soft or with any application the phone wile reboot only

when you have it mid, when there are some problems the telephone wil bluescreen giving the bluescreeen reason data and the way go get rid of bs is taking the batt out,

there is one more mode debug level high but settable only in admin menu, i do not reccomend it at all, makes all the menus go slower due to constant high debugging

hope i helped

regards

Hi all

My firmware is F480BUHG3
Im guessing its newer than HF7
It might be stupid to ask but is there any point in flashing my phone with HF7?

Sorry my mistake. There is T9. They called it "ENG" so I didnt realise :P

I agree the fonts are uglier than the english version but I wanted chinese characters. The music interface isnt as good as the ipod touch but the player offers everything we need to manage music and the output quality is good. I'm using it as my main player now so I dont have to carry two devices.

UPDATED: Reloaded image ad made corrections.

Hi,

After searching for ages on google, I still can't seem to find a decent tutorial on how to flash my F480. However I've had bits of help from various people and I've put this little guide together. Worked a treat with my phone. Having said that after trying this guide I accept absolutely no responsibility for your phone being dmaaged or 'bricked' in anyway.

Here's what I did:

Downloading the software:

First off you need to download the firmware you want and then Multiloader V5.33 which is the program you're going to be using to flash your phone.

Make sure you remmeber where you've put these files as you'll need to browse to them when using multiloader.

Preparing your phone:

I am assuming here that you've already installed Samsung PC Studio and it works fine with your supplied USB cable.

NOTE: Flashing your phone will delete all your contacts, calender, settings ringtones etc.

You probably want to back up all your files and contacts. I recommend syncing your contacts etc. with Samsung PC Studio and copying over your files on your phone to your memory card or PC (your memory card will not be touched).

Once that's done remove any memory card you may have and then remove the SIM card. Put you battery back in. Your phone should be off at this point. Hold down the 'Volume down' key (The bottom rocker button on the left side of your phone) and the camera button and press the power on button (some of you may have to press the middle button, as well as the above buttons to go into flash mode). Your phone should start up into a wierd screen with downloader v.5.32 or something and some boxes. It's now ready to be flashed.

Using Multiloader:

Open multiloader. It should look something like this without all the settings selected (The middle section should be blank!):

NOTE: The striked out 'W's are justbackward slashes, don't worry about that.

Then press the AMSS button on the left side and browse to the firmware files you want to flash (unzip/rar them as necessary). Go to the binary folder and then select amss_compressed. Do the same for Rsrc1,Rsrc2 and FSS selecting the appropiate files as shown in the above pic.

You should now be ready to flash. Connect your phone to your comp and then click download in multiloader. AT THIS POINT DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE/DETATCH THE CABLE/SWITCH OFF YOUR COMP. Your phone should have a status indicator with percentages and this should be reflected in multiloader. The process should tkae about 5 minutes thgouh I'm not sure about that. Once it's done your phone will restart twice by itself. Once this is done it should start up as normal into the widgets page. It's now complete.

Congratulations on flashing your phone. You can now repalce your SIM and Memory card and set up your phone the way you like it.

Hope this helped.

Feel free to steal this tutorial/post it on another website etc., I made it in a few minutes and couldn't care less if you take credit for it.

Try this combination: hold button, volume down key & camera button, at the same time press and hold all of them and turn on the phone ( take out your sim card ).

Ah ha some good news!!

so your saying its prob ok for me to flash mine then? and it cant be tracked?

Mine is F470ADHD3 at the mo on UK O2 contract, the firmware was going to goto would be F480XXHF7, so would O2 not check if there was a fault?

The only branding I can see is a locked .bmp of O2 when you startup and shutdown, so obviously hat wont be there after the flash? how would I get round that if O2 asked?

can someone get F480JHHG4 ?

or is it possible to read full flash from this model?

There you go, that's exactly what I said....comparing the Tocco to the ipod touch/iphone UI will result in dissapoint to some.

But I do stand by my earlier statement, the tocco is the closest phone out there for the 'touch experience' of apple's offerings......I, I've had a few, before the F480 I bought then quickly sold the HTC Touch (?) Diamond and that was a truely terrible UI & phone!!!.....if apple made a smaller iphone I'd have another one but they don't and while u say if you'd paid for the tocco u would take it back, well I did pay for mine and I'm very happy with it and intend on keeping hold of it for a while yet, it's NOT an iphone/ipod but it's certainly a cool little tool imho.......it's a small touch phone with a few other features is the way I look at it, not an boated iphone on an 18 month contract, in that respect the Sammy works perfectly well for my needs.....and the browser isn't all that bad I'm finding now (hated it to start with but it's more than good enough for occasional lunchtime use I find anyway).

I also had that latest european fw before updating, and do still find it a much more responsive phone but hey, at the end of the day if u don't like the tocco it might be a good idea to eBay it for a couple of hundred and put some cash towards an used unlocked 2g iphone.

thx for ur help and ur support..i really appreciate this work..and i promise i`ll thank u much more if my phone is back to life..i really acted like a real man ..thx again

Hi all

I'm using a orange branded F480BVHF2 and the music player cannot read chinese unicode song names.

I was wondering if the F480XXHF7 has unicode id3 tag support in the music player? If not, does anybody know where I can find F488ZHHG1?

Thanks
