Great film - awful ending

Nooo...it was the perfect ending.
Lucas wrote the entire original trilogy before he even shot any of the movies. Obviously things needed to be cut down, or moved (such as moving the Death Star into A New Hope; and adding a second for ROTJ). But Empire had the perfect ending to continue the story IMO.

But I have to agree with Shirt Slicer. Knowing had one hell of a f*cked up ending. I know they weird paedo looking guys (for lack of a better example) were popping up all the way through. But aliens? I actually said "what the f*ck" out loud :D
 
Silver Dream Racer, an obscure bike racing movie starring David Essex from the 80's...an ending just so unexpected and uncharactaristic compared to the rest of the movie, it just left me truly stunned...
 
Really? I don't notice much difference- certainly not a 'significant margin'. I use firefox too, but IE on digitalspy and I find firefox has a few compatability issues at times with certain sites, such as the one in this thread!

Anyway, back on topic, another good film with a bad ending- I'm going to say, The Return of The King

My fault, I'd not read the book, so I was really expecting Sam and Frodo to be killed! I was surprised when they survived and then got flown out by eagles! In fact, I found that a bit cheesy. Shame they couldn't have got the magical eagles earlier and simply flown the ring to mount doom :p

Monty Python and the Holy Grail of course. Just ran out of steam where if it had been part of one their TV comedy sketch programmes they would have jump cut to something completely different.

Love that film right up until the point

Willen Defoe turns up in a dress (looking strangely like Jane Fonda!) and then the whole thing sort of falls apart
 
Million Dollar Baby. The entire final act is abysmal, it would've been a far better film if it had finished after the big twist.
 
I have to say I loved The Mist - it was utterly harrowing, I was unable to do anything but cry after watching it.

I liked AI quite a bit...

An ending I was a bit disappointed with was North By Norh West (even though I love the film). Yes I understand Hitchcock wants to end the film, but it;s like, oh suspense, then nothing.... hmmm!

And don't get me started on Unusual Suspects - The film with the most obvious twist ever! Grrrr....

The Happening - where it just stops happening!
 
Yes, this was my first thought on seeing the thread title too. I sat through the dross of the first hour and a half praying it would improve, then out came the

aliens

to wreck any merit the film had. (Anyone else spotting a theme here?)

Others: High Fidelity, which I love, but works better in the book where Rob doesn't get back together with her - it just makes more sense, and the reunion after the funeral is an oddly dark twist to the film.

Wall-E - after painting a wonderful dystopia, the cave painted-ending is just too easy. Sequel, anyone?
