Government Could Fine BP $4,300 Per Oil Barrel Spilled Into Gulf

i figured it would be common knowledge to try and mitigate a situation as quickly as possible rather than let it drag on.

I have worked with BP before. They are VERY anal about having things safe. This is why they were going to get that award again. It makes it tough to work with them and they take their time when making decisions to go through their next move (As most people can see now) but they do it all with the best intentions. It just happens that things can go wrong.

I mean, I still wonder how many people remember about the Texas City refinery blast BP had that really made them change gears to become the safe company they have turned into today.

Why are you sticking up for a foreign oil company? Are you a British citizen or something?

it's understandable to be anal about safety, especially when it comes to oil rigs

all of the people in the government who give a shit about the environment were too busy pointing the finger at whoever, chanting "drill baby drill" and other sarcasm to actually push for mobilizing an effort to HELP THE ENVIRONMENT.

BP isn't American .

It has nothing to do with that. I'm just using it as comparative.

This is BP's fault. Plain and simple. The gov't isn't equipped to fix this leak, BP is. Anyone trying to blame the government for the leak is being an asshole.

I do however think the army core of engineers needs to step aside and let the state of LA do what they want in terms of sand dredging and setting up land booms. But at the same time, I'm not an engineer and LA doesn't have the right to protect its coast line if the measures it takes risk another state's coast.

Very few people have the knowledge necessary to pass any sort of judgement on what's going on in the clean up or capping situation and NONE OF THEM are in this thread.

True but it does not take a scientist to figure that out. What we are saying is once the topside issue seemed to spawn out of control for our shrimpboat employment, it might have been time to get on the horn and get a crew out here.

Companies like All Seas Marine and other contractors could help get boats to the gulf to start clean up immediately. Just back charge it all to BP in the end.

as long as bp pays for the clean up i dont see why the government should profit from this

GROSS PROFITS.

Their profit margin is minimal, as are most oil companies. Most of their money is dumped into alternative energy research and other areas to help make the company better. The money is spent but these companies WORK ON VOLUME.

They can do that because the whole world uses oil based products and they are not slowing down.

How are you this dense?

Yeah...because it's that cut and dry.

Once the crude is completely removed from the water (which is impossible to 100% remove) there will be no pre or post-environmental impact.

All those fish, coastlines, reefs, birds, etc. are completely unaffected. The gulf's and florida's beaches which generate tourist income are completely unaffected.

etc. etc. etc.
