Whenever I watch "Went the Day Well?", about an English village fighting back against Nazi paratroopers, there's a scene at the end where Bernard Miles shows us the grave where the Germans are buried. "Well, that's the only bit of old England they got".
He then goes on to refer to the failed invasion, implying a storm wrecked the barges. The film was made in 1942, when Britain had its back very much to the wall, and it was by no means certain that Germany could be beaten.
Obviously it's manipulative propaganda, but I fill with tears every time!
